Bee resin takes the sting out of painful mouth ulcers

British scientists have created a gel 治療 for mouth ulcers that uses a mixture of resin and wax used by honey bees to sterilise their 蜂の巣s.

Although the 傷をいやす／和解させるing 所有物／資産／財産s of propolis have been known for years, it has not been 広範囲にわたって used because the sticky 実体 is not water soluble and has a strong, off-putting smell.

Now 研究員s at the University of Bradford have 設立する a way of purifying the medicinal mixture so that it will 解散させる in water and loses its pungent odour.

The technique has already led to the 開発 of a new mouth ulcer gel and opens the door to a 抱擁する 範囲 of other 製薬の 製品s.

研究 leader Professor Anant Paradkar, said: 'Propolis is a コンビナート／複合体 化学製品 mix and a very useful natural 製品.

'Propolis has been shown to be anti-microbial, anti-fungal, a strong anti-oxidant, 非，不，無-allergenic and can 上げる the 免疫の system. It also 促進するs 負傷させる 傷をいやす／和解させるing and has anaesthetic 所有物／資産／財産s.

Professor Paradkar’s team has been developing the new technique to purify propolis in 共同 with natural 薬／医学 製造業者, Nature’s 研究室／実験室.

Together they have created a new propolis-based mouth ulcer gel, which has bette r anaesthetic, anti-microbial and anti-fungal 所有物／資産／財産s than gels already on the market and is also 安全な for use in children.

Professor Paradkar said: 'A problem for mouth gels is that adhesion to the 肌 membrane inside the mouth is difficult - because of the nature of the surface, the gel can 簡単に slide off.

'As propolis 保持するs some of its stickiness even in a water soluble 公式化, when it is 適用するd to 明確な／細部 areas in the mouth, it 固執するs more 効果的に.'
