Britons 気が進まない to give up smoking

Only three per cent of smokers try to やめる at New Year and a ４半期/4分の1 of Britons think it is 現実に a good excuse to 延期する giving up, a 調査する said today.

The international 調査する also showed that 77% of smokers in the UK think they would find it easier to give up sex for a month than やめる the habit.

The 調査する was 解放（する）d today for the 開始する，打ち上げる a new （選挙などの）運動をする, "Smoke 解放する／自由な in 2003" which wants people to use this New Year as a 焦点（を合わせる） for quitting smoking and visit their GP for advice and support.

Former England football captain Gary Lineker, who was 開始する，打ち上げるing the （選挙などの）運動をする in London this morning, said: "The success of my international football career depended upon good health and fitness and although I am not a smoker myself, I am 井戸／弁護士席 aware of the 破滅的な 影響s that smoking can have.

"It wastes talent and 廃虚s lives - that is why I support 'Smoke 解放する／自由な in 2003'.

"I 勧める smokers to make a かかわり合い to やめる this New Year - go and see your doctor for help and advice on giving up smoking."

The 調査する showed that 63% of smokers had 以前 gone "冷淡な turkey" or used willpower alone to try to give up cigarettes and 61% 設立する they returned to smoking within one month.

Dr Alex Bobak, a GP from London and chairman of the taskforce Smoking 停止 in 最初の／主要な Care, said: "New Year is 伝統的に a time for 再評価するing and making 決意／決議s about our behaviour.

"For smokers this 供給するs an excellent 適切な時期 to take 在庫／株 and consider whether they want to spend another year smoking.

The 調査する, of 2,139 smokers and ex-smokers 老年の between 18 and 70 was carried out in the UK, Germany, Spain, Belgium, フラン, The Netherlands and Australia.

It showed t hat 78% of smokers would like to give up and 66% felt New Year was a good time to やめる.

However, only three パーセント tried to やめる at New Year and 26% of UK smokers have never tried to give up.

The 大多数 of those 調査するd felt it would be easier to do a bungee jump or 棄権する from sex for a month than give up smoking.

The UK topped the （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する for the 百分率 of smokers who had tried at least once to stop smoking.

But, compared with the other countries, it also had the highest 百分率 (25%) who felt that New Year was a good excuse to 延期する stopping smoking.
