Kids and salt

存在 a parent isn't 平易な, 特に when you're struggling to give your children healthy foods, but are forever 存在 nagged to let them have the same junk as their friends, such as the chocolate 妨げる/法廷,弁護士業s, crisps and fizzy, additive-riddled drinks that some parents seem to think 構成するs 許容できる fodder for young, 攻撃を受けやすい, growing 団体/死体s.

It's even more 失望させるing when your child's school doesn't place much importance on 供給するing wholesome food, instead letting kids have a plate of 半導体素子s for lunch or tacitly encouraging them to waste their pocket money on the vending machines that some food 製造業者s cajole schools into 住宅 (the school gets to keep the money that the kids slot into the machines).

On a more 肯定的な 公式文書,認める, New End 最初の/主要な School in Hampstead has recently banned its children from bringing any food and drink other than fruits and vegetables の上に the 前提s, an edict of which I wholeheartedly 認可する.

Not only are the kids now enjoying a far healthier diet, but the school 報告(する)/憶測s a 重要な 改良 in their behaviour, 動機づけ and 業績/成果 as a result. How I wish that more schools would follow New End 最初の/主要な?s excellent example!

A 最近の 報告(する)/憶測 by the Food (売買)手数料,委託(する)/委員会/権限 (an 独立した・無所属 group that 監視するs the 質 of our food) has 警告するd that the salt content of some kids' favourites has risen to worrying 高さs, the 長,指導者 犯人s 存在 crisps and baked beans. (It also 設立する that a Burger King children's meal, a small can of Heinz Telly Tubbies pasta 形態/調整s and a 選び出す/独身 部分 of 酪農場 Lea Lunchables would all take a six-year-old child 井戸/弁護士席 over the recommended daily salt 限界.)

And when we look at our 消費 傾向s as a society, we are all eating far too much salt. 過程d and ready made foods, for example, typically 含む/封じ込める large 量s of salt (partly because it?s a preservative and partly because our acclimatised taste buds now 需要・要求する it), and although some 製造業者 s have 減ずるd many of their 製品s' salt content, we?re still exposing our 団体/死体s to higher levels of salt than are healthy because we eat so many of them.

The 推論する/理由 why we should all be trying 削減(する) our salt intake by 減ずるing our 消費 of 過程d foods, pickled foods, cured meats and breakfast cereals, which, you may be surprised to learn, are high in salt, 同様に as using いっそう少なく salt in cooking (and preferably 非,不,無, instead harnessing the flavour-高めるing 力/強力にする of garlic, ワイン, fresh or 乾燥した,日照りのd herbs, lemon juice, chilli and lemon grass), is that too much salt is linked with high 血 圧力 and bone loss (raising the 危険 of developing osteoporosis), 同様に as 存在 a 危険 factor when it comes to 一打/打撃s and heart attacks.

High salt intakes have also been 巻き込むd in 悪化させるing breathing difficulties in 喘息 苦しんでいる人s and より悪くするing fluid retention and bloating.

If you are a parent, it's 特に important not to use much salt when cooking and to keep your child's 消費 of salt-packed 過程d foods, 顕著に 在庫/株 cubes, canned and packet soup, sauces, hard and 過程d cheeses and even 甘い 薄焼きパン/素焼陶器s, to a 最小限.

As for you, be 警告するd that having a bowl of cereal for breakfast and a bacon or cheese-and-pickle 挟む for lunch would 原因(となる) you to 攻撃する,衝突する the recommended daily 最大限 of 4g of salt, which wouldn't leave you any room for manoeuvre for the 残り/休憩(する) of the day.

Two tips that help the 団体/死体 to を取り引きする salt are, firstly, to drink plenty of water to encourage urine 生産/産物, so 紅潮/摘発するing away the salt and, secondly, to eat more potassium-rich foods. Potassium's 関係 with salt within the 団体/死体 can be compared to a seesaw, so that if your potassium intake is high, your 団体/死体?s ナトリウム (the 重要な element in salt) level will be low.

The foods that are 自然に rich in this mineral are 乾燥した,日照りのd fruits (ideally without 追加するd sulphur 二酸化物, SO2), nuts, 気が狂って, other fruits and vegetables, 特に onions, potatoes and pulses (but wash t inned, ready cooked pulses 井戸/弁護士席 because they may have been 保存するd in very salty water).

And don't forget that frozen vegetables are both rich in potassium and 平易な to disguise in meals when your kids need some goodness こそこそ動くing inside them.

Pork in 下落する and milk

In Tuscany last summer a wonderful woman called Senora Tete cooked this pork dish, which was not only 十分な of flavour, but also the marinating and slow cooking meant the meat just melted in the mouth-which is useful if your child has problems chewing meat.

Serves 4-6

1kg loin of pork with it?s bone 除去するd, rolled and trussed up with string

400ml 乾燥した,日照りの white ワイン

3 tblsp white ワイン vinegar

a tablespoon virgin olive oil

黒人/ボイコット pepper

A few 下落する leaves

2 springs of rosemary

600ml 十分な cream milk

The night before you want to eat this dish, place the meat in a 深い dish and cover it with the ワイン and ワイン vinegar. Place in the fridge 夜通し to marinate.

The に引き続いて day, take out the meat, pat it 乾燥した,日照りの with kitchen paper and then in a large casserole dish that can be heated on 最高の,を越す of the cooker heat the olive oil and the place the meat in the dish and brown on all 味方するs.

Season with plenty of freshly ground 黒人/ボイコット pepper and then 追加する the herbs-leaving the 下落する leaves whole and the rosemary as sprigs. Cover with the milk and then turn the heat 負かす/撃墜する to a low heat, cover and cook very slowly for 2.5 hours. Once the meat is very tender, take off the lid and then turn the heat up to bring the liquid to the boil, to about half it?s 容積/容量.-don?t worry if it curdles.

To serve, 除去する the pork and slice on a warm plate. Serve with a little of the sauce 注ぐd over, through a sieve and the 残り/休憩(する) on the 味方する.

Serve with a plenty of green leafy vegetables such as broccoli if your children will eat them, or creamed spinach goes really 井戸/弁護士席 too with the pork.
