I was going bald until a 'hair enhancer' weaved its 魔法

Her hair ? or 欠如（する） of it ? took over Janet Robertson’s life when she 攻撃する，衝突する her late 40s.

She had always had 罰金 hair but after the menopause, she started to go bald on 最高の，を越す.

‘It was 破滅的な,’ she says. ‘My husband was 極度の慎重さを要する and supportive but, to be honest, I was at my wits’ end.’

‘Every morning I got up, washed my hair, blow-乾燥した，日照りのd it and then used about half a can of hair lacquer to try to cover the bald patch,’ she says.

Janet’s story is one that will resonate with many of the 25 per cent of 地位，任命する-menopausal women who を煩う hair-thinning and baldness.

顧問 psychiatrist Dr Adrian Winbow, at Fitzroy Square Hospital in London, says it is a 条件 that can 廃虚 lives.

‘Hair loss is much worse for women than for men,’ he 追加するs.

‘They are already coming to 条件 with ageing, the problems of menopause and the loss of their fertility.’

‘This is a vicious circle,’ says Dr Winbow. ‘If you are self-conscious and depressed, you don’t go out. This, in turn, makes you いっそう少なく 確信して and more anxious.’

In extreme 事例／患者s, agoraphobia and 臨床の 不景気 develop. For his 患者s, Dr Winbow recommends a combination of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and antidepressants.

Although it never got this bad for Janet, 52, a support 労働者, she did 投資する ひどく in ways to 戦闘 the problem.

‘Thinning hair in women ? also called androgenic alopecia ? can be せいにするd to genetics and hormones,’ he says.

Androgenic alopecia is 予定 おもに to a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

This is a form of testosterone that in women is produced by the adrenal （分泌する為の）腺. DHT 原因（となる）s hair follicles to 悪化する 徐々に.

Women don’t produce as much testosterone as men and therefore have much smaller 量s of DHT.

The 影響s of DHT are 中和する／阻止するd by the 女性（の） hormone oestrogen, which is produced by the ovaries.

‘During and after the menopause ? and as oestrogen levels 減少（する） ? DHT can 行為／法令／行動する 反対者のない, so women may を煩う hair loss,’ says Dr Farjo.

The pattern of balding is different from that of men.

‘Women are more likely to 保持する the frontal hairline,’ he says, ‘but thin in an oval-形態／調整d area behind it. The 支援する and 味方するs also thin out.’
