What IS the truth about olive oil?

Most of us are aware of how important it is to 穏健な the 量 of fat we eat in our diets.

But in our 急ぐ に向かって low fat eating, it can be 平易な to 行方不明になる out on the 利益s of healthy fats known as 必須の fatty 酸性のs (EFAs).

Unlike the fats 設立する in meat and 酪農場 製品s, they may 現実に 減ずる the 危険 of 条件s such as heart 病気 and 一打/打撃.

One fat which has been 選び出す/独身d out for special attention in this 尊敬(する)・点 is olive oil.

A high 消費 of olive oil is thought to explain, at least in part, why Mediterranean races such as the Southern Italians and Greeks have low 率s of heart 病気.

However, a 報告(する)/憶測 in the 医療の 定期刊行物 The Lancet (人命などを)奪う,主張するs that the 提案するd health 利益s of olive oil are overstated. The article 示唆するs that many vegetable oils 申し込む/申し出 just as many, if not more, health 利益s in the long 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語. So, does olive oil really 所有する some unique 病気-保護の 所有物/資産/財産s, or is its 評判 単に the result of marketing hype?

Fats and oils, technically known as lipids, come in three basic forms: saturated, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated.

Saturated fat, 設立する おもに in meat, eggs and 酪農場 製品s, has been linked with an 増加するd 危険 of heart 病気, while poly and monounsaturated fats are believed to help 持続する health and 保護する the 団体/死体 from 病気. Many of olive oil's healthy 所有物/資産/財産s have been せいにするd to a form of monounsaturated fat known as oleic 酸性の.

In the new 報告(する)/憶測, the authors cast 疑問 on its 利益s by 引用するing a 熟考する/考慮する which looked at the 可能性のある 利益s of a Mediterranean diet. They discuss 研究 which 設立する individuals switching to a Mediterranean diet were at 減ずるd 危険 of a second heart attack. The 研究 argues that it was not olive oil but a margarine based on rapeseed oil which 利益d the 熟考する/考慮する group.

However, whatever the 親族 長所s of thi s, the fact remains that Mediterranean races enjoy 比較して low 率s of heart 病気, and olive oil (not rapeseed margarine) is the predominant fat in their diet.

One of olive oil's 影響s is to 減ずる cholesterol levels in the bloodstream. In the paper in The Lancet, the authors (人命などを)奪う,主張する that most other poly and monounsaturated vegetable oils 現実に have more potent cholesterol-lowering 活動/戦闘s than olive oil. This may be true, but it should not be assumed a 削減 in cholesterol level やむを得ず means a lower 危険 of heart 病気.

When looking at the 衝撃 of cholesterol on the 団体/死体, we need to look beyond just the level of this fat in the bloodstream. It is known from 熟考する/考慮するs in animals that cholesterol is 有毒な when it 反応するs with oxygen (becomes 'oxidised').

Olive oil 含む/封じ込めるs a number of 構内/化合物s, 含むing oleuropein and squalene, which can 保護する cholesterol from oxidation. These 構内/化合物s may also help to 減ずる the 危険 of other 条件s 関係のある to oxidation, such as 癌.

One 熟考する/考慮する 設立する that women 消費するing more olive oil had a 意味ありげに 減ずるd 危険 of breast 癌.

One final point the authors make to 非難する olive oil relates to its supposed 衝撃 on 負わせる - that as olive oil is a fat, its 新規加入 to the diet may 増加する calorie intake, その為に 増加するing 負わせる.

The only 科学の 熟考する/考慮する I could find which 診察するd the 影響 of olive oil on 負わせる did not support this theory.

明確に, the balance of 証拠 still supports using olive oil in the diet. 正規の/正選手 消費 - either as the base for salad dressing or to cook with - is likely to have かなりの health 利益s in the long 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語.

冷淡な-圧力(をかける)d extra virgin olive oil, unprocessed and nonheat-扱う/治療するd, from the first 圧力(をかける)ing of olives, is believed to have the most health-giving 所有物/資産/財産s.
