革命の implants help 負傷させるd children smile again

Doctors are putting smiles 支援する on the 直面するs of 本気で負傷させるd and deformed children with the help of a 革命の new implant to help 再構築する their looks.

Around 50 youngsters, 含むing a 12-year-old girl who could barely open her mouth since birth, are now grinning from ear to ear after the life-changing 外科.

The implants have been developed by scientists from the University of Nottingham who teamed up with ロシアの研究員s to create the polymer 構成要素 - a honeycomb-like 代案／選択肢 to 伝統的な titanium structures.

The PolyHap implants are 現在／一般に存在 used as part of 臨床の裁判，公判s in Moscow, where many of the children 扱う／治療するd have 苦しむd serious 傷害s 影響する／感情ing their 直面するs.

Successful 外科

の中で the 患者s who have undergone 外科 is 12-year-old Kseniya Gordeeva, who 苦しむd jaw 損失 at birth and could barely open her mouth.

Kseniya had to eat through a straw, had difficulty talking and 設立する it almost impossible to clean her teeth, and because of the 欠如（する） of normal 栄養 she was also underweight for her age.

During a five-hour 操作／手術 the section of 損失d bone was 除去するd and a two-インチ implant was 挿入するd into her 直面する.

Nine days later she was able to open her mouth without so much 成果／努力 and can eat, laugh and talk to her friends 普通は.

"Now it is much easier. I can talk like my friends and eat 普通は. I don't have a favourite food because everything I eat is special."

Professor Vitaly Roginsky, one of Russia's 主要な children's cranio-maxillofacial 外科医s, has been carrying out the facial corrective 外科 for the 裁判，公判s.

He also 扱う／治療するd Anara Djantemiroma, 15, who 苦しむd under-開発 of the jaw as a young girl. This was 訂正するd in a 一連の操作／手術s, the final one 伴う／関わるing insertion of an implant.

Prof Roginsky said: "These implants 許す us to carry out many more 操作／手術s than before. They are easier to adjust and reshape and give us much more 柔軟性 in our work."

Hi-tech 過程

When a child is 査定する／（税金などを）課すd for an 操作／手術 at the St Vladimir Children's Hospital, Moscow, scientists use X-rays and tomography images to create a three-dimensional plastic cast of the 損失d area.

These solid biomodels, built by a hi-tech 過程 called レーザー stereolithography, 許す外科医s to 計画（する）操作／手術s with 広大な／多数の／重要な precision before they even 解除する a scalpel.

Having 査定する／（税金などを）課すd how much bone needs to be 除去するd, the scientists use stereolithography to make the individual PolyHap implants.

The technique, which can be 完全にするd in a 事柄 of hours, can be used to make the most intricate 形態／調整s which are then sent to the hospital.

The 輪郭（を描く） of the implant is 最初 "drawn" by a レーザー beam which leaves a very 罰金塗装 of polymer. This 過程 is repeated hundreds of times until the model is 完全にする.

So far the Moscow 操作／手術s have been carried out to 訂正する jaw or skull deformities. But the implants can be adapted for any part of the 骸骨／概要.

Professor Steve Howdle, who led the team at the University of Nottingham's School of Chemistry, said: "Precision is 決定的な in this type of 操作／手術 since every 傷害 will be unique in some way and the 患者 is 明白に hoping for the best possible visual 影響 after 外科.

Although the PolyHap implants have produced good results, there is a 可能性 they might have to be 取って代わるd as the child grows and bones develop.

The teams in Nottingham and Moscow have now started work on a bio-degradeable 見解／翻訳／版 which will slowly 解散させる as the 修理ing bone begins to regrow.
