Doctors believe a man may have taken 40,000 ecstasy pills so far in his lifetime, making him the biggest 記録，記録的な／記録するd 使用者 of the 麻薬. But what 影響 does ecstasy have and how has he put his health at 危険? We find out here...

What is it?

Ecstasy, or methylenedioxymethamphetamine, is a man-made Class A 麻薬. It usually comes in the form of different coloured tablets which are swallowed.

The 麻薬 is also called E, disco 薄焼きパン／素焼陶器s, brownies, 抱擁する麻薬 and burgers. It costs around ￡10 per pill.

It is 違法な to 所有する the 麻薬 and carries a 宣告，判決 of up to seven years in 刑務所，拘置所. 供給（する）ing the 麻薬 has up to a life 宣告，判決.

How does it 影響 the 使用者?

The 麻薬 usually creates a 急ぐ of adrenaline followed by feeling energetic but 静める with a sense of wellbeing. Colours and sounds can seem more 激しい, hence its 人気 on the UK dance scene.

A 選び出す／独身 tablet usually takes 影響 after 20 minutes and lasts for about six hours. 使用者s can develop a psychological dependence on the 麻薬.

What are the 危険s?

Very few ecstasy tablets are pure. Most have been 削減（する） into with other contents such as talcum 砕く and even dog-worming tablets. Dangerous anaesthetics and tranquillisers such as ketamine may have been 追加するd. So it's something of a ロシアの roulette.

Another big 危険 with ecstasy is dehydration. In the much publicised 1995 事例／患者 of Leah Betts, the 18-year-old died after drinking more than three litres of water in a short space of time, 原因（となる）ing brain swelling, 昏睡 and death.
