Cough syrup - the new cure for prostate 癌

An 成分 used in cough 薬／医学 for more than 50 years could be a powerful new 治療 for prostate 癌.

Noscapine, a 麻薬 derived from あへん, has been 設立する to stunt tumour growth and 減ずる the 危険 of 癌 spreading by up to 65 per cent.

Now other 熟考する／考慮するs are under way to see if it could help fight 癌 of the breast, 肺s and ovaries, 同様に as lymphoma - a tumour that 影響する／感情s the lymph nodes under the arm.

Although the 麻薬's anti-癌 所有物／資産／財産s were first recognised 支援する in the Sixties, in-depth 熟考する／考慮するs have only taken place in 最近の years as 麻薬 companies have stepped up the search for new and powerful 癌 治療s.

Although あへん is the main source of noscapine, it is also 設立する in tiny 量s in tomatoes and cabbage leaves.

Mice were fed doses of the 麻薬 and their 癌s were closely 監視するd to see what 影響 the cough-syrup 成分 had.

It slowed tumour growth by 60 per cent and 減ずるd the 危険 of it spreading to other parts of the 団体／死体 by 65 per cent.

'Incredibly, this was 達成するd with no 有毒性,' he said. 'It 論証するs noscapine's 可能性のある as an 効果的な anticancer スパイ／執行官 - and a very 安全な one, too.'

Prostate 癌 is the most ありふれた type of tumour in men in the UK, accounting for almost one in four male 癌s. Each year, nearly 32,000 men are 診断するd with the 病気 and more than 10,000 die from it.

Dr Moche Rogosnitzky, from the MedInsight 研究 学校／設ける in Delaware, America, which helped 基金 the 研究, said: 'Noscapine has been used for cough 鎮圧 for の近くに to half a century. 最近の 発見s are pointing to its 有効性 in 扱う／治療するing a 幅の広い variety of 癌s.'

The 麻薬 is thought to work by 干渉するing with the way 癌 独房s divide, stopping tumours from growing 速く.
