A virulent 緊張する of malaria is becoming more 流布している の中で UK travellers, によれば new 人物/姿/数字s.

統計(学) from the Health 保護 機関 (HPA) showed a rise in the number of 事例/患者s of the 潜在的に 致命的な plasmodium falciparum (P. falciparum) 緊張する of the 病気, which kills more than a million people a year in Africa.

The HPA said the 大多数 of malaria 事例/患者s 報告(する)/憶測d in the UK were in people who had visited friends and 親族s in 熱帯の countries.

A total of 1758 事例/患者s of malaria were 報告(する)/憶測d の中で travellers from the UK in 2006, with 1386 存在 原因(となる)d by the P. falciparum 緊張する - a rise of nearly 4 per cent on the previous year.

The いっそう少なく dangerous 緊張する of the 病気 - plasmodium vivax (P. vivax), which used to account for the 大多数 of malaria 事例/患者s in the UK - was 責任がある just 219 事例/患者s in 2006.

Today's data contrast with the pattern 20 years ago, when there were 1005 事例/患者s of P. vivax and only 696 事例/患者s of P. falciparum.

Although the total number of 事例/患者s of malaria has remained more or いっそう少なく constant, the growth of the more virulent 緊張する means the 危険 to public health is greater, the HPA said.

Professor Peter Chiodini, a malaria 専門家 at the HPA, said it was important for everyone travelling to malarial 地域s to be 適切に vaccinated.

He said: "It is a ありふれた misconception that people who were born in places where malaria is rife and who now live in the UK have 免疫 to malaria.

"This is not the 事例/患者, because they very quickly lose the 部分的な/不平等な 免疫 they might have acquired whilst they lived there, and people who have never lived in these countries have no 免疫."

Malaria is a 潜在的に life-脅すing parasitic 病気 transmitted by mosquitoes, and although it is preventable, many travellers put themselves at 危険 by not taking the appropriate 保護の 麻薬s, or not 完全にするing the course, the HPA 警告するd.
