The 発射 of alcohol that cures foot 苦痛

An 注射 of alcohol could be the answer for Morton's neuroma - an 極端に painful foot （民事の）告訴 苦しむd by more than a million Britons.

Until now, 外科 has been the only 効果的な 治療 for the 条件, where a small growth forms on a 神経 in the foot.

However, a 臨床の 裁判，公判 has shown that just four alcohol 注射s straight into the growth work 同様に as 外科 but with 非，不，無 of the 危険s.

Morton's neuroma occurs on the 神経s that run between the long metatarsal bones in the feet.

Typically, a small nodule (between 2mm and 20mm) develops in the webbing between the third and fourth toe. The 苦痛 is 原因（となる）d by it getting 罠にかける and squeezed between the bones.

The 条件 is far more ありふれた in women, with those 老年の between 40 and 60 most at 危険.

It's thought that tight shoes, high heels, bunions and flat feet are all possible 原因（となる）s, as their 影響 is to squeeze the bones together, pinching the 神経.

The resulting 摩擦 thickens the 神経 so that it 結局 forms a lump (the neuroma).

患者s 最初 experience just intermittent stabbing 苦痛 - which appears to be linked to spending long periods on their feet.

But over a period of months, the 苦痛 can become constant, often radiating as a tingling or numbing sensation in the toes.

患者s 述べる it as 存在 like walking on a hard pea.

Many also develop a painful clicking in the foot - the sound of the 罠にかける 神経 pinging up or 負かす／撃墜する between the long bones.

For years , the first line of 治療 was cortisone 注射s, which work as an anti-inflammatory and can 供給する 一時的な 救済. But 最近の 熟考する／考慮するs have shown it is not very 効果的な for managing longer-称する，呼ぶ／期間／用語 苦痛.

Other 対策, such as custom-made footpads (orthotics), designed to relieve 圧力 on the ball of the foot, can 減ずる 苦痛 for some 患者s.

But many say these 現実に make the 苦痛 worse as they （問題を）取り上げる room in the shoe, which squashes the feet even more.

If these steps fail, until now 患者s have had to 辞職する themselves to the prospect of 外科.

This has a success 率 of around 75 to 90 per cent. However, it can fail and specialists say the 危険s shouldn't be underestimated.

"The neuroma may be 除去するd but the scar tissue that can form, and is a normal part of the 傷をいやす／和解させるing 過程, can 包む around the 神経, 原因（となる）ing intractable 苦痛," says Dr David Connell, a 主要な 捜査官／調査官 on the alcohol jab 裁判，公判.

"Or it can 原因（となる） a 'stump' neuroma - where the 神経 grows 支援する." This can be more painful than the 初めの neuroma.

Even if 外科 is successful, 患者s can spend up to six weeks off their feet as they 回復する.

The new 治療, which is carried out on an outpatient basis, 伴う／関わるs four 注射s spaced two weeks apart.

Alcohol is 有毒な to the 神経s and the jabs work by 徐々に 毒（薬）ing and 殺人，大当り off the neuroma.

For the 裁判，公判, carried out at the 王室の 国家の Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, Middlesex, 101 患者s received 注射s 含む／封じ込めるing 20 per cent of alcohol diluted in a 地元の anaesthetic and 配達するd under ultrasound 指導／手引.

患者s were up on their feet minutes after having the ten-second jab.

The 患者s' 進歩 was followed for an 普通の／平均（する） of two years, and 84 per cent were 報告（する）／憶測d to be 全く 苦痛-解放する／自由な after 治療, while another 10 per cent 報告（する）／憶測d 部分的な／不平等な symptom 救済.

Angela Lombardo, 53, a teacher from London, had the 治療 in October after 存在 診断するd in M ay. "The 注射s stung for a few seconds but the 改良 was noticeable すぐに.

"If I'd had the 外科, I'd have been laid up for six weeks but I went on holiday すぐに.

"My husband and I walked 非，不，無-stop for two weeks and I was 完全に 苦痛-解放する／自由な."

At the moment, there are only about six 顧問s using this technique.

But as Ian Reilly, a 顧問 podiatric 外科医 from Northampton General Hospital, explains: "What 研究員s at the 王室の 国家の Orthopaedic Hospital say carries 負わせる. Any good 外科医 wants to 避ける operating on 患者s if it is at all possible.

"I think this story will 誘発する a lot of 利益／興味 from 顧問s."
