How smoking makes it harder to conceive

WOMEN smokers who try for a baby may （問題を）取り上げる to two months longer to conceive than 非，不，無-smokers, doctors say.

研究員s have, for the first time, 手段d the 影響 of the habit on a woman's chances of becoming 妊娠している.

A 熟考する／考慮する looked at the success 率s of 569 women 老年の around 29 who were trying to have a baby, 含むing smokers, ex- smokers and nonsmokers.

Its findings show that those who continued to smoke took, on 普通の／平均（する）, almost two months longer to conceive than women who gave up smoking during that period.

However, quitting helps すぐに. Within a year of giving up, exsmokers took no longer to become 妊娠している than women who had never smoked.

But smokers should now consider quitting even earlier - as soon as they decide they want to try for a baby.

He said: 'There is a lot of 証拠 about the 危険s of smoking during pregnancy such as higher 幼児 mortality, the 増加するd 危険 of the baby developing serious respiratory 感染, and lower birth 負わせるs.

'But many women may not be aware that quitting also 大いに 改善するs their chances of getting 妊娠している in the first place.

'The 熟考する／考慮する 明確に shows a link between smoking and fertility problems.'

Published today in the 定期刊行物 of Biosocial Science, the 熟考する／考慮する 示唆するs 激しい smokers are 影響する／感情d to a greater degree.

But Dr Munafo 強調する／ストレスd that smoking made conception harder for all women.

Dr Munafo said: 'When trying to conceive, many women often change their lifestyl e by cutting 負かす／撃墜する their alcohol intake, taking ビタミンs and minerals and eating a healthier diet.

'This 熟考する／考慮する shows that stopping smoking should be a part of this pre- conception 決まりきった仕事 and women should やめる as soon as they are thinking about having a baby. The message from this 研究 is that if you want to get 妊娠している, you will not only 改善する your chances by quitting, you will also be doing something to 保護する the health of your child in the long 称する，呼ぶ／期間／用語.'

Other 研究 has 設立する that if a 非，不，無-smoking woman is exposed to passive smoking, her chances of conceiving within a year are 減ずるd by 14 per cent.
