The public discourse around 自殺 and 不景気 must change

One autumn afternoon in 2008 the author, David Foster Wallace hanged himself after neatly arranging his papers.

He had been struggling with 不景気 for over two 10年間s and 再構築するing his life on several occasions after 決裂/故障s; Wallace had had enough.

Accounts from friends and 知識s 示唆する that in the months 先行する his 自殺, Wallace had been 失望させるd by the 医薬 induced 霧 that descended over him and felt it 衝撃d his ability to 令状 with clarity. He had gone off his 医薬. That 薬/医学 probably kept him alive.

But the price it 抽出するd was much too high. He was only 46. His death brought to him a celebrity, which he had 避けるd for most of his life, 存在 acutely self-conscious of 存在 in the limelight.

It made him in some circles a sort of caricature and a stereotype, that of a "genius who was tormented by inner demons".

現象

His wife, Karen Green was 引用するd in an interview in the 後見人 newspaper as 説: "What do you do when your husband's 検視 報告(する)/憶測 is on the internet and is みなすd a 支配する worthy of f*** literary 批評". In the article it is について言及するd that she still 避けるs Google.

There is a macabre curiosity when it comes to people taking their own lives, 特に when it is those whom we assume "have it all".

Every couple of years the nation's 集団の/共同の curiosity is fed when an unfortunate occurrence like this takes place.?

指名するs of famous celebrities, usually on the 辛勝する/優位 of big celebritydom or on the other 味方する of it, (不足などを)補う the 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる) and long discussions 続いて起こる.

検視s of their lives and 失敗s are carried out in public glare with scant regard for those who 生き残る them.

Deadly silence: Depression is by far the leading cause of suicides and is yet so rarely discussed

Deadly silence: 不景気 is by far the 主要な 原因(となる) of 自殺s and is yet so rarely discussed

For when it comes to death, of any 肉親,親類d, it is those who are left behind who 現実に experience it. And in the circus of the macabre, they are usually forgotten.

Struggling with their questions, they find too many people who have ready answers. I have known people who have taken their own lives, いつかs only too 井戸/弁護士席.

One is a 指名する that is brought up every time a celebrity 自殺 takes place. She was my 隣人 and classmate and we 棒 the same bus to school.

She was also a friend and let me practise 運動 her jeep; it was the first time I had ever been behind a steering wheel.

Tragic: Bollywood actress Jiah Khan is believed to have killed herself after what appear to be suicide notes were discovered, describing herself as a failure

悲劇の: Bollywood actress Jiah 旅宿泊所 is believed to have killed herself after what appear to be 自殺 公式文書,認めるs were discovered, 述べるing herself as a 失敗

I knew her for t welve years before she died and had lost touch after moving abroad straight after school. But on the day she passed away and I returned home from work, my mother was waiting on me.

She told me before I turned on the television. It was everywhere. I wallowed in it, like one tends to. Looking for 手がかり(を与える)s from the time I had known her; we had not been in touch for many years and in the 続いて起こるing years I had only ever received nuggets of (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) about her.

Her ambitions had taken her into another life. I suppose she had 手配中の,お尋ね者 to be a movie 星/主役にする; one other classmate had already become one- the world knew her as Mallika Sherawat- and there was no 推論する/理由 why she shouldn't have been one either.

After all, she had 養育するd that dream longer. But even after having known her so 井戸/弁護士席, all those years ago, it was facile for me to assume I knew anything of why she had decided to take her own life. No 量 of channel surfing or googling could 供給する me with any answers.

自殺s are like that, inexplicable. The same human experience can 奮起させる someone to stand up and another to end their life. But what is explicable is 不景気. It is by far the 主要な 原因(となる) of 自殺s and is yet so rarely discussed.

We find myriad 推論する/理由s for a 自殺 - heart break, 財政上の 廃虚, 強調する/ストレス - but very rarely do we discuss the underlying factor that makes some individuals 反応する so decisively to these 状況/情勢s that are after all human experiences and a part of all our lives, to some degree.

Celebrities

When it comes to celebrity 自殺s, there is an occasion for discussing 不景気, but all too often the 推論する/理由s become about their ext enuating circumstances, which 妨げる them from normal human experiences, the 肉親,親類d you and I have.

必然的に their deaths are tagged with 井戸/弁護士席 worn and often 極端に judgmental clich?s. No one is the better for the discussion, 特に the 残り/休憩(する) of us, who are likely to have people in our lives who are depressed and wish to identify those 調印するs.

不景気

Which again makes me think of Wallace and his struggle with 不景気. Some may 見解(をとる) it as a defeatist narrative, where 病気 征服する/打ち勝つs.

Suffering: Depression is rarely discussed as a disease and is often dismissed in public discourse with labels such as 'the common cold of the mind'

苦しむing: 不景気 is rarely discussed as a 病気 and is often 解任するd in public discourse with labels such as 'the ありふれた 冷淡な of the mind'

However I find it valorous in the honesty with which his predicament has brought to light the very 激しい 戦う/戦い that those with 不景気 fight on a daily basis.

It is not an 平易な 病気 to 征服する/打ち勝つ although it is commo n and is often referred to as the "ありふれた 冷淡な of the mind".

But it can be identified and managed, if we decide to 受託する it as a 病気 and not as something that happens to other people with other lives or as something that doesn't 存在する at all.
