England 低迷 to その上の 敗北・負かす

England's hopes of building 勢い during the NatWest Series was 土台を崩すd by a 包括的な 敗北・負かす in the 開始 match against Sri Lanka.

With the World Cup just nine months away and a 最大限 of 26 games before their 開始 game of the tournament against New Zealand on March 16, England were hoping today's start of the five-match series could signal a change in fortunes.

But instead of 存在 解除するd by the occasion, England 持続するd their 最近の struggles, slipping to a 20-run 敗北・負かす after 存在 限られた／立憲的な to 237 for nine in reply to Sri Lanka's 257 for nine.

Today's 敗北・負かす, though, was perhaps the most telling for an England line-up who 配達するd a scrappy and ill-disciplined 陳列する，発揮する in the field while Sri Lanka's superior attack 確実にするd they never 脅すd to 精密検査する their 競争の激しい total.

England were so under-par in the field they 譲歩するd 42 extras - 含むing 23 wides - to 精密検査する their previous highest total in a one-day international of 41 記録，記録的な／記録するd against Sri Lanka during the Nehru Cup at Delhi in 1989-90.

補佐官d by England's sloppy play and 上げるd by 120 from opener Upul Tharanga, Sri Lanka should really have 地位，任命するd a far more challenging total after racing to 97 for one after only 15 overs.

Tharanga 確実にするd the tourists were given a 飛行機で行くing start にもかかわらず losing Sanath Jayasuriya in the fifth over, caught behind to become one of Steve Harmison's three 犠牲者s, and raced to his half-century off only 44 balls during a 99-run stand with captain Mahela Jayawardene.

But the introduction of Paul Collingwood stemmed the run spree with his 正確な medium pace 停止（させる）ing Sri Lanka's 境界 count and also ending their 生産力のある second wicket stand.

Jayawardene, happy to play a supporting 役割 to Tharanga for the 大多数 of the 17-overs stand, had just begun to 加速する by 開始する，打ち上げるing Middlesex off-spinner Jamie Dalrymple for six over long on in the previous over.

But 試みる／企てるing to do the same to Collingwood in the next over, Jayawardene instead spooned the ball in the 空気／公表する for 事実上の／代理-captain Andrew Strauss to take at 中央の-off.

His demise 誘発するd a 安定した 崩壊（する） for Sri Lanka with no other batsman staying long enough to (1)偽造する／(2)徐々に進む an 効果的な 共同 with Tharanga as the tourists lost their last six wickets for 61 runs in 15 overs.

Tharanga, given a （死）刑の執行猶予（をする） by wicketkeeper Geraint Jones when he 行方不明になるd a stumping with the Sri Lankan opener on 59 off Dalrymple, was finally out in the penultimate over caught in the 深い 試みる／企てるing quick runs.

Collingwood, に引き続いて on from his impressive four for 22 during the Twenty20 match, was the 選ぶ of the attack and （人命などを）奪う，主張するd two for 29 from his 10 overs while Harmison grabbed three for 52 to give その上の 激励 to England.

Once Trescothick fell England's belief went with it and by the time Dalrymple was bowled by Murali for 67, England needed 44 runs with only three overs remaining and Malinga 調印（する）d Sri Lanka's 勝利 by （人命などを）奪う，主張するing two late wickets to finish with three for 26, his best 人物／姿／数字s in a one-day international.
