I 会合，会う Anthony Stokes, one-time teenage 兵器庫 prodigy and Celtic striker, at a 刑務所，拘置所 in the central belt of Scotland, two weeks into what will turn out to be a three-month 宣告，判決, and the experience already seems indelible.?

His 知識s with the Real アイルランド共和国軍 have 熟知させるd him with life on the wrong 味方する of the lines long before he is sent here, for 砲撃するing an ex-girlfriend with messages after they 分裂（する）, 接触するing her in 違反 of 法廷，裁判所 orders and then absconding.?

But the casual 行為／法令／行動するs of 暴力／激しさ he 遭遇（する）s are something else. On the day we 会合，会う, he’s wandered out of the 刑務所，拘置所 体育館 to find a 囚人, 嫌疑者，容疑者／疑うd of having stolen from other inmates’ 独房s, lying in his own 血. Another inmate has been 審議する／熟考するd scalded by hot water from a kettle.

‘Things get 論争d,’ he says. ‘It doesn’t happen on the 上陸 because there’s cameras everywhere. You get people just dragged into a room.’

It’s the absence of hope, ‘the 行き詰まらせる’, on his wing at HMP Addiewell, which 原因（となる）s the 暴力／激しさ, he says. ‘People turn to 麻薬s just to get through the 宣告，判決. They’re numbing themselves to get through every day. The 麻薬s send everyone off their 長，率いるs and that’s when the fighting starts.’

It’s so different to the life he’s known. ‘With football you’re always 運動ing for something. Even when you get 大打撃を与えるd, you come 支援する again, working に向かって the next game. Stokes thinks this will be a very 簡潔な／要約する experience. ‘I’ll be out soon,’ he says, sitting before me in all-grey 刑務所，拘置所 wear, sun streaming through 閉めだした windows.

But he isn’t. A few weeks after we 会合，会う, he appears in 法廷，裁判所 and is 宣告，判決 d to five months. We speak by phone a few hours after he returns to his 独房 and his usual 肯定的な disposition has 消えるd. Four hours in a police 持つ／拘留するing 独房 after 宣告，判決ing, を待つing a 刑務所，拘置所 先頭, に先行するd the 旅行 支援する, 星／主役にするing through the 先頭’s small windows at a blue sky.

He’d imagined 刑務所，拘置所 would be a time to 反映する, draw a line and start again but just getting through seems as much as he can manage at this 行う／開催する／段階. He says he 行方不明になるs conversations which don’t 爆発する into 暴力／激しさ because of word taken the wrong way.

It’s a necessary lesson learned for him. Too often in a football career which saw him touted as a 広大な／多数の／重要な Irish talent, he’s 訴える手段／行楽地d to 暴力／激しさ.

Stokes was 解放（する）d a fortnight ago, and when we 会合，会う again this week in Dublin, he dwells on how 経営者／支配人s tried to 派手に宣伝する some sense into him and show him the way. Roy Keane, at Sunderland, leaving him to 人物／姿／数字 things out for himself. ‘Giving you 適切な時期s to better yourself without 絶えず 説, “do this, do that.” Neil Lennon, at Celtic, and John Hughes, at Hibernian, ‘understanding the 肉親，親類d of character I was.’

The Dublin-born striker began his career as a 青年 player at 兵器庫 after moving from Ireland

He enjoyed success at Celtic and won the Scottish 首相の職 on four different occasions

A few weeks after we 会合，会う, Stokes (権利) appe ars in 法廷，裁判所 and is 宣告，判決d to five months

But 刑務所，拘置所 has left him haunted by something which no 分析 of 管理／経営 styles can explain away. A sense that all of this is on him.?

As his reflections 宙返り／暴落する out, you feel that Stokes ? erudite, sharp and wiser, with the road now travelled - would be a good 助言者 to have around young players, though he’s not sure football will want him 支援する in.?

‘I 選ぶd up a 確かな 肉親，親類d of 評判, partly because of my 関係s here,’ he says. Redemption in public life is certainly harder to find these days and 刑務所，拘置所 is not seen as part of a narrative arc. People don’t want to know those who’ve served time.

‘He could have been a 激しく揺する 星／主役にする player,’ says my taxi driver after we’ve dropped Stokes at his mother’s house on our way out of Dublin. ‘He had everything. The League of Ireland could use someone like that.’

Stokes is just keeping his 長，率いる 負かす／撃墜する, trying to work out what happens next, coming to 条件 with the fact he’s 35, sitting in Dublin’s 寺 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業 on a dreary May day, watching messages ping の上に on his 粉砕するd 動きやすい phone and discussing a career that’s in the past. ‘Football’s gone before you know where you are,’ he says. ‘I can see that now.’
