Newcastle are more Gallic than Geordie, so... where have all the home boys gone?

In 最近の years, the accent on 新規採用 at Newcastle 部隊d has undergone a 過激な change, in more ways than one. More Gallic than Geordie these days. Not so much bonny lad as bonjour.

Even 許すing for Yohan Cabaye bidding au revoir for Paris St-Germain, the change of 強調 and 不平等 between the 現在の squad and famous homegrown ones of the past will be all too 明らかな when Alan Pardew’s multicultural 味方する take the field for Saturday’s Tyne-Wear derby.

‘There was a TV programme about the club, and they 跡をつけるd 負かす／撃墜する former members who turned professional, like Alan Thompson, Robbie Elliott and Steve Bruce, and the interviewer asked them all, “What did you learn at the boys club?” And every one of them said, “Discipline”. We taught them to 尊敬（する）・点 people and turn up on time. If you cannot make it then let people know.

‘The 尊敬（する）・点 programme that the FA rolled out was based on the boys club, and that is something everyone here is proud of.

‘I remember seeing Alan Shearer at nine, playing for his school up at Gosforth, and 現実に not 存在 all that struck by him. At the time, I didn’t think, “Here is a world-beater”. But Alan was 献身的な. He lived the farthest away, yet was always first in and last to leave.

‘Peter Beardsley was 11 when I first saw him. He was the most skilful player I’d ever seen at that time.

‘Then he apologised to the goalkeeper and said, “I’m not taking the mickey. It’s just that’s something I’ve always 手配中の，お尋ね者 to do”. That shows the other 味方する of how we want our youngsters to develop. The pri ority has always been to give 地元の boys and girls the chance to learn to love the sport, as much as produce players for the professional 階級s.’

‘I saw a boy called Michael Carrick playing in a school game,’ he said. ‘He had fantastic balance, he could think and move quickly, and he always had his 長，率いる up, reading the game. He was a natural.

‘It’s 広大な／多数の／重要な to see these boys come through but no-one should underestimate the 役割 of Peter Kirkley. You cannot value the number of players he has spotted over the years. He is a remarkable man.’
