Roberto Martinez

has a unique

whether he is 後継するing

as a 経営者/支配人

― if the footballing

public ask him about his

team rather than the game

in his native land he must

be doing something 権利.

Best known for his eight-year

stint as a pundit on Sky's

of Spanish football, it is only

recently that Swansea get

Roberto Martinez

"It's nice the order has changed

a bit," 反映するs the 34-year-old

Spaniard who has steered his

club to the 最高の,を越す of Coca-Cola

League One, although their

進歩 was interrupted when

today's visit to second-place

Carlisle was 延期するd because

of a frozen pitch.

Martinez had a 簡潔な/要約する taste of

playing in the big time with Real Zaragoza before the culture

shock of moving to Wigan 12

years ago and has been here ever

since, 含むing (一定の)期間s at Motherwell,

Chester and Swansea.

they asked him to be 経営者/支配人 10

months ago.

His unusual 旅行 only began

because Wigan chairman Dave

Whelan was 開始 a sports

shop in Zaragoza and happened

across Martinez, a stylish midfielder,

when he took in a game.

He became the first Bosman

移転 to England, arriving with

fellow Spaniards Jesus Seba and

Isidro Diaz ― known cheesily as

the 'Three Amigos' ― and 継続している

かなり longer than the

others in this 外国人 環境.

"Without the other two I might

not have 生き残るd 早期に on," he

"Everything was so different, from the food to there 存在

very few foreign players. A lot has

changed but 支援する then I couldn't

get any coffee, we trained in

天候s I was not used to and

the players were always either in

the bookies' or playing ゴルフ."

There was 明確に more beer

than Pier about Wigan, which he

Not much could

have 用意が出来ている him for it, having

lived in Catalunya where his

father, also Roberto, was a lower

to go その上の afield because his

wife ran a shoe shop. He went on

to manage four different teams.

"Ever since I started playing I've

looked at things like a 経営者/支配人,"

says Martinez Jnr. "Maybe it's

because the mood of our house

always depended on how the

result had gone at the 週末."

Somehow you cannot imagine

the lumpen 大多数 in English

professional football sticking at

an overseas career like Martinez.

But he knows why he is still

here. "やめる 簡単に, the lower

leagues football here is bigger and

better organised than anywhere

else in Europe so I've never been

tempted to go 支援する," he explains.

"To go to Darlington on a midweek

evening and see a thousand

Swansea fans there ― this is fantastic

and it could never happen

in Spain."

His love of our game is, however,

far from uncritical and he has an

激烈な/緊急の understanding that the

deeper than who the 経営者/支配人 is.

He is 特に 関心d about the 全体にわたる 開発 of

players 老年の 18 to 21. In that

period, while with Zaragoza, he

完全にするd a three-year university

degree in physiotherapy before

in 商売/仕事 and marketing

in Manchester.

"Fabio Capello will have to learn

about the background of players,"

he says. "There are a lot of lifestyle

問題/発行するs in our game. It is changing

slowly but too many players do

not get eight hours' sleep a night,

for example, and the drinking culture

is still a problem.

"Most players from 18-21 should

be getting qualified in something.

We have an 協定 with a

college in Neath for our younger

players to 熟考する/考慮する there.

"In this country we have to tell

players at 18 whether they are

players or not, and most of the

time it is hard to know.

having something like the 'B'

leagues in Spain, where young

players 大(公)使館員d to big clubs can

develop at a lower level."

― one of three Spanish players in

a cosmopolitan squad that also

features three Trinidadians ―

who is a qualified teacher.

Martinez may be young and

impressive but he is not as young

as John Toshack was when, at 28,

he took over and carried the club

from the old 分割s Four to

One. They 株 深い Hispanic

関係s and Swansea fans

might see an omen there.
