Andy Carroll has a 自白 to make. He takes us 支援する to the ヘリコプター ride between Newcastle and Liverpool on January 31, 2011 and the hours before 完全にするing his British 記録,記録的な/記録する £35million 移転.

'Do you know what,' he begins, 'I was 負傷させるd at the time, and all I'm thinking is, "Please, just fail the 医療の".'

This is not, he 強調する/ストレスs, a reflection on Liverpool, it could have been any club.

'The minute I got on that ヘリコプター I 手配中の,お尋ね者 to come 支援する. I knew it had to happen. Whatever age, I needed to walk 支援する on that pitch and play for Newcastle again.

'I remember leaving here (Newcastle's training ground) in Kevin Nolan's car because 負担s of people were outside. We went to his house and watched it on TV. I was like, "I'm not going". I'd just bought a house, and a cat the day before!

'But then I was told, "You're going", and that was that.'

Newcastle owner マイク Ashley had 35million 推論する/理由s to tell the hometown hero he was off.

'Listen, I would have rather stayed at the time and all the way to the ヘリコプター I'm thinking, "What is happening? What am I doing?". But looking 支援する, and how it 形態/調整d me as a player and a person, I would honestly still do it. I probably needed to get out of the city to grow up.'

As a person, 承認する. But as a player? Sportsmail 同意しないs. Carroll in a Newcastle shirt was a superhero ― a ponytailed, hair-raising menace who would 破産した/(警察が)手入れする noses and 逮捕するs. 'It feels good to hear that,' he says. 'It's why I didn't want to go. Up here, I always felt good about myself playing. Now I'm 支援する, I have that same feeling.'

Does he know how many goals he 得点する/非難する/20d in 2010? 'Twenty?'. It was 26. He hasn't 攻撃する,衝突する 二塁打 人物/姿/数字s in a calendar year since.

He made his England debut, the first of nine caps and two goals. A quick aside, is that a point of pride or 悔いる? 'No 悔いる. If it wasn't for 傷害s maybe I'd still be there. A lot of good players don't get any caps.

'But yeah, it was the best year of my career, 傷害-解放する/自由な. It was one year though. I never saw the last 10 years going the way they have ― I 手配中の,お尋ね者 to 達成する more, play more, 得点する/非難する/20 more. That's why I've still got a lot more to give. I'm not a stupid young lad any more. If the 傷害s stay away then I believe in myself.

'This isn't a one-year thing, I want a new 取引,協定.'

The Andy Carroll who sits before us now is alive. There is energy in both 団体/死体 and soul. He has just played his first 十分な game since 再結合させるing Newcastle in August and captained the club for the first time at Burnley last 週末.

But to 論証する his newfound contentment, he feels the need to 明らかにする/漏らす the torment of his final months at West Ham, where he spent seven years before 存在 解放(する)d in the summer. Carroll has four children ― 'my little mates' ― and is engaged to The Only Way Is Essex 星/主役にする Billi Mucklow. He is a multi-millionaire. But 奪うd of football に引き続いて a 一連の botched ankle 操作/手術s, he struggled to take satisfaction from a life many on the outside would 推定する 保証(人)s happiness.

'I was in a dark place. It was hard to snap out of and it wasn't until I was on the A1 運動ing 支援する up here that I was like, "This is it, I can start enjoying life again".

'Even my mam and dad were always up and 負かす/撃墜する to London because they were worried. I had good times at West Ham but I needed to get out, it had gone stale. The minute I woke up I didn't want to speak to anyone. I was so angry with myself, my ankle, at not playing.

'When I went out people 手配中の,お尋ね者 to talk about football, and I just couldn't 扱う it. I stayed in on my own.

'I was then putting myself upstairs when people were downstairs. I was just like, "Get everyone out the house, I don't want anyone here!".'

Carroll, we learn, felt an 不正. It is 平易な to understand why as he begins an exasperated recount of the ankle 傷害 that 疫病/悩ますd him for two years.

'This is ridiculous,' he 警告するs. 'I had one 操作/手術 and the screws (機の)カム loose. Unheard of. The next one, the fracture opened again because the screws still weren't tight enough. So I went to a new 外科医. This time the screws were bigger but they realised the ankle ligaments were frayed on the outside. It had never been spotted, for two years!

'My last game at West Ham I played with a broken ankle. I'd been told it was 罰金. I was in so much 苦痛 and thought, "I just can't do this any more".'

Somehow, Carroll finds the will to laugh.

'I should have gone to Wickes and got a big 捕らえる、獲得する of screws before those 協議s! But the 最新の 外科医 was excellent. He 修理d everything. That's nine months and no problems.'

After a summer training on his own and with no 逆の reaction, Newcastle decided Carroll was 価値(がある) a 賭事. He 調印するd on an incentivised 支払う/賃金-as-you-play 取引,協定.

'I got a phone call 説, "Are you on your way up?". I was like, "No, but I soon will be!".

At first, says Carroll, he thought he recognised the man on the motorbike who pulled up と一緒に his Jeep at traffic lights and began chatting to him.

It was only when the biker 需要・要求するd his watch and then gestured to pull a gun on him that the terror began to 広げる.

Until now, Carroll has never spoken about the events of November 2, 2016.

'You 恐れる for your life. It was 25 minutes 存在 chased by two people on bikes pulling guns out. I was nearly home, so I spun around and started 運動ing 支援する に向かって West Ham's training ground.

'I was clipping cars, going through red lights, 速度(を上げる) cameras, 追いつくing on the wrong 味方する.

Carroll's 速度(を上げる)s during the chase were, understandably, 過度の. But that brings us on to a car 旅行 we once 株d when, admittedly, 行方不明になる Daisy could have beaten us home.

In 2009, Newcastle won 1-0 at Preston and Carroll was 孤立した in the second half feeling unwell.

It is, then, of 救済 to Carroll that his four-year-old son, Arlo, has switched 忠誠 to Newcastle.

'He was West Ham-mad and always 辞退するd to wear Newcastle (土地などの)細長い一片s, no 事柄 how hard my dad tried. Now, everything is 黒人/ボイコット and white, he even sings the Blaydon Races.

'He's obsessed with football, he knows everything, a lot more than me! Before we (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域 Man 部隊d, he asked me to get Scott McTominay's shirt. I was going to but it got a bit heated and I was arguing with McTominay. I thought, "Sorry son, that shirt isn't happening now!".'

Carroll, by his own admission, has never been at 緩和する speaking to the マスコミ. His brow used to sweat as a 十代の少年少女 just talking to 地元の reporters. Ask him about family, however, and he forgets the tapes are rolling. His dad, Thomas, was a steel factory 労働者 who honed his son's 長,率いるing 技術s by throwing a ball to him at the 最高の,を越す of the stairs.

'Every time with Arlo now it's like, "Come on, we're throwing balls". We were practising the other day with a proper matchball.
