When Bernhard Langer finally 調印するs off on his time as a competitor in the Masters in this coming week, he will leave just one minor wish unfulfilled.

It 関心s an 実験 and something he has been unable to 実験（する） in his 40 previous visits to Augusta.

As this 版 will be his last, and because the club is not known for lending itself to such sideshows, chances are he’ll never know how it would have gone. But there is a ぐずぐず残る curiosity.

‘It could be fun to see,’ he tells Mail Sport. ‘What if you put an 普通の／平均（する） amateur, maybe a 障害（者） 20, on the green in 無, at the furthest part from the 旗 on every green, and see the 得点する／非難する／２０ for 18 穴を開けるs against a プロの／賛成の playing from the tee?

‘If we play to par, 72, they have to 普通の／平均（する） four putts a 穴を開ける to tie. I think that would be a good match.’

He knows it would ? the 犠牲者s of those putting surfaces make for a long 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる）. ‘When I first played there (in 1982), I made 11 three-putts in 36 穴を開けるs,’ he says.

The two-time Masters 支持する／優勝者 says he has one unfulfilled wish from the major

‘I remember 存在 on the ninth green one year and my next 発射 was from the fairway. I'm not the only one. I think it was Tom 道具, six or seven under par, and he 攻撃する，衝突する it to about six feet on 18 and putted it off the green ? I think he took three more to get 負かす／撃墜する.

‘It’s not an 平易な place.’

And so speaks a man who has tamed Augusta twice, the first of which （機の）カム 40 years ago this month. But age gets to everyone 結局, even a 67-year-old golfer whose career is 無敵の for the duration of its Indian summer.

When he won the Charles Schwab Cup last November, not only was it his 47th 勝利，勝つ on the 上級のs’ 回路・連盟, and an 拡張 of his 記録，記録的な／記録する in that 競争の激しい afterlife, but it was also his 18th straight year of 上陸 at least one 肩書を与える. There are evergreens at Augusta that would envy his endurance.

But as for continuing at the Masters, where has nine 最高の，を越す-10 finishes, 含むing those victories in 1985 and 1993, this 版 will be his last. 最終的に, he is no longer a 十分な match for the bigger hitters.

‘I’m still 普通の／平均（する）ing around 275 yards off the tee,’ he says. ‘But these guys 攻撃する，衝突する it so far. I played a tournament around five years ago and 攻撃する，衝突する a 運動 299 yards and I'm thinking, “Oh, that had to be 最高の，を越す 30”. So I asked where was it was in the distance 最高位の. I get told it was around 95th. 宗教上の moly. So there's literally almost 100 guys then that 攻撃する，衝突する it over 300.

‘So yeah, it's, it's a different game for the young guys.’

Age has shown itself in other ways, too. What made his 勝利，勝つ last November so memorable was the fact he had 決裂d his Achilles tendon playing pickleball at the start of the year.

Langer knows more than anybody about the layout and mysteries of Augusta?

‘That wasn’t fun,’ he says. ‘It was a freak 事故. Somebody lobbed me when I was 近づく the 逮捕する, or 近づく the kitchen as they call it in pickleball, so I made three or four steps backwards and I jumped up to 粉砕する it.

‘As I （機の）カム 負かす／撃墜する, I landed on my left foot and I hear this sound like a 射撃. The feeling was like somebody 攻撃する，衝突する me with a 大打撃を与える on my heel.’

That 傷害 killed his 計画（する）s of 説 goodbye to the Masters in 2024 and instead rolled the 計画（する） 支援する a year. His 出口 as a competitor will come with the distinction of 存在 one of only 18 多重の 勝利者s of the tournament.

Having experienced 時代s from Arnold Palmer to Scottie Scheffler, he knows more than most about this layout and its mysteries. His technical 決裂／故障 of the nuances is fascinating.

‘It's really not a normal ゴルフ course,’ says Langer, an 外交官／大使 for Mercedes Benz. ‘It's very different now than what it used to be like in the Eighties - it had the widest fairways in the world and then trees, so it was more about the second 発射 then.

‘Now they have what they call an 中間の 削減（する）, but let’s call it rough, and the fairways are much narrower, so 運動ing has become much more important. What people maybe don’t see is if you are in that rough, even though it isn’t 深い, the ball comes out with いっそう少なく spin, so controlling the ball into those greens is even harder. And the greens are 極端に 需要・要求するing as we’ve already said.

‘Another thing people can't even see on television is how undulating the fairways are. If you play 18 穴を開けるs, you may get one flat line. Everything is sidehill, downhill, 上りの／困難な, all so ぎこちない, and from them you are 目的（とする）ing for an area the size of a （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する 最高の，を越す, maybe four feet by four feet.’

As with many golfers, Langer’s introduction to the course in 1982 was 迎える／歓迎するd by a 行方不明になるd 削減（する） and an epiphany that 補助装置d in a run of making every 削減（する） between 1984 and 2002.

‘Practise 一連の会議、交渉／完成するs were something I learned to take very 本気で. Learning where to 行方不明になる. You could 行方不明になる a green 10 yards 権利 and get it up and 負かす／撃墜する, but if you 行方不明になる it one yard left with a 確かな pin, there is no chance to get it up and 負かす／撃墜する. That is what I got from the practise 一連の会議、交渉／完成するs.

‘The other is the grass ? it always seems to be growing into you around the greens, which makes chipping very difficult. I'm a 公正に／かなり decent 投手 and chipper, but it's a 罰金 a line between duffing a 半導体素子 or hitting it good, so I learned to 半導体素子 with a four アイロンをかける or a hybrid or putter, not always a 高く弓形に打ち返す wedge, because it's too difficult.’

Langer’s 穴を開ける-by-穴を開ける dissection is summed by two words: unique and hard.

‘The first is not that 平易な since they lengthened it,’ he says. ‘Four and five are hard, seven has got very long. And then you have 10, 11, that are always hard. Now, 12 is a piece of cake when there's no 勝利，勝つd. But how many days do you get there with no 勝利，勝つd? It's always 渦巻くing, and often you literally guess what club to 攻撃する，衝突する.

‘The 17th is long and the green is sloping away. That’s okay for Rory McIlroy who is long enough that he can stop his second 発射. I’m hitting a long アイロンをかける and it won’t stop. I have to 目的（とする） for the （船に）燃料を積み込む／（軍）地下えんぺい壕 and get up and 負かす／撃墜する. The challenges are everywhere. Nowhere is boring, every one of them is unique.’

Few have navigated them better than Langer. If nous counts for a few 発射s, it would be foolish to 支配する him out of making the 週末 one last time.
