Rory McIlroy celebrated Open 勝利,勝つ by filling Claret Jug with Jagermeister... and now he has Nick Faldo's 記録,記録的な/記録する of six majors in his sights

Many drinks have been sipped from the famous Claret Jug over the years but was this the first time the tipple of choice was a Jagermeister cocktail?

Sunday evening, after Rory McIlroy had won The Open. A 静かな dinner 支援する at the 賃貸しの house.

Then it was on to the Empire 妨げる/法廷,弁護士業 and club in Liverpool in the company of Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth and the most famous トロフィー in the game.

‘There was an area 非常線,警戒線d off and it was a lovely 集会 of about 20 or 30 people,’ said a 証言,証人/目撃する. ‘Rory was not 砲撃するd in any way.’

This year’s 勝利者 was 18 years younger. Hence the Jagerbomb.

With a わずかに sore 長,率いる, McIlroy made his way to the Emerald 小島 on Monday and will remain there until Friday. Then he’s off to New York for the 週末 before it’s 支援する to the day 職業.

McIlroy is a fortnight into a stretch that will see him play 11 tournaments in 14 weeks. The big one for him is the USPGA 選手権 in 16 days on a Valhalla course that せねばならない fit his 注目する,もくろむ.

With 勢い on his 味方する, it would surprise no one if he emulated Tiger 支持を得ようと努めるd’s 業績/成就 in 2006 when he followed up his Hoylake 勝利,勝つ by (人命などを)奪う,主張するing the next major as wel l.

‘It has been a difficult 18 months at times but winning the Claret Jug makes it all worthwhile,’ said McIlroy, 反映するing on a period that 含むd a fair bit of 井戸/弁護士席-chronicled 騒動 away from the course.

‘I felt like I had to silence a few doubters about how I could play links ゴルフ, how I could 扱う a lead and how I would play on Friday. But when I went there a couple of weeks ago I felt it was a course where I could do 井戸/弁護士席. I was coming into form and just needed something to click.’

With three majors to his 指名する at the startling age of 25, it’s only natural to wonder how many he could 勝利,勝つ. The next 目印 is the six won by Sir Nick Faldo and the seven by Harry Vardon - the most successful European golfer of all time.

Given the three so far were (人命などを)奪う,主張するd in four years against a tumultuous 背景 of obvious distractions, it would surprise no-one if he 追いつくs them by the time he reaches 30 - the age at which Faldo won his first.

If he 持続するs the pace he is on 権利 now, with three 勝利,勝つs out of the last 16 played, he will have the same number as Tiger (14) 長,率いるing into his 40s.

Who would have thought, when he was 設立するing a four-発射 lead with a 一連の会議、交渉/完成する to play at the 2011 Masters, that the Green Jacket would be the 行方不明の 衣料品 needed to 完全にする his career Grand 激突する?

I 疑問 you’d find anyone in the game who doesn’t believe McIlroy will 勝利,勝つ a Masters one day.

Becoming the sixth player to 達成する the career 激突する - after 遺伝子 Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and 支持を得ようと努めるd - is just a 事例/患者 of when, and McIlroy has reached that 行う/開催する/段階 where he will be happy to embrace the hype that will 宙返り/暴落する his way next April.

支持を得ようと努めるd gave a surprisingly tepid 返答 on Sunday when asked about McIlroy. ‘He’s one of those players like Phil (Mickelson), he has his 売春婦 t weeks and his weeks when he’s off. That’s just the way he plays,’ he said.

Select group: Jack Nicklaus is one of just five players to have won all four majors in history

The fact is McIlroy has hardly been off all year. It was in January you could sense a 新たにするd 目的.

But for a 一連の inexplicably bad second 一連の会議、交渉/完成するs, he would have won four or five times already this year. All that 事柄s for little, of course, when the two you do 勝利,勝つ are Europe’s 旗艦 event at Wentworth in May and, in particular, the Claret Jug.

Some players never get over what they regard as the 業績/成就 of a lifetime. With McIlroy, you get the feeling it will take him a week.

Next stop is one of his favourite events - the Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone in Ohio. I bet he can’t wait for the first-tee 告示, and the best feeling in the sport: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, the 2014 Open 支持する/優勝者...’

There are many ways of illustrating why this was a fabulous Open 選手権 and the chatter of two 14-year-old girls, who 以前 wouldn’t have known one end of a ゴルフ club from another, せねばならない count の中で them.

‘Do we have to?’ summed up the facial 表現 of my daughter Molly and her friend Rom when asked if they’d like to go to the ゴルフ on their doorstep (we live 地元で) and see what all the fuss was about. My wife and I thought they’d be on the bus 支援する home within the hour.

Instead they sat in the grandstand on the 18th for seven hours and didn’t leave until the 贈呈 was over. On Sunday evening Molly and I sat for an hour talking ゴルフ, a シナリオ about as 考えられる as Liverpool playing home games at Old Trafford.

One thing that’s become really noticeable over the last 10 years is how the atmosphere is so much better when The Open is played in England than Scotland.

The last four Opens, held at Carnoustie (2007), Turnberry (2009), St Andrews (2010) and Muirfield (2013), have all been flat in comparison to Birkdale (2008), 王室の St George’s (2011), Lytham (2012) and now, Hoylake.

Why this should be the 事例/患者 is hard to fathom. Is it because there is so little tournament ゴルフ 行う/開催する/段階d in England as …に反対するd to Scotland? Next year the 選手権 will be 行う/開催する/段階d at St Andrews followed by 王室の Troon in 2016.

It’s almost sacrilege to say it, given how much the nation has 与える/捧げるd to the sport. But isn’t it time Scotland raised its game?

When is Sergio Garcia ever going to grow up?

I can think of at least three occasions in Tuesday columns after majors when I’ve written those words. He 激怒(する)d against the Gods, he was sulkiness personified; in short, he 論証するd 正確に/まさに why he always fell just short when it (機の)カム to winning the big ones.

So how refreshing to see him walk off the 18th green bathed in smiles instead of criticising cruel 運命/宿命 for throwing Rory McIlroy at him, just after he had got rid of Tiger 支持を得ようと努めるd.

‘I try to look at the 肯定的なs and there’s a lot more of them here than 消極的なs,’ he said. Yes, he really did say that, and even 追加するd a light-hearted dig at the old Sergio: ‘It looks like I’m finally growing up.’

The 34-year-old might 勝利,勝つ one of these majors yet.
