Glastonbury, charity work and an Onion festival... what our gold メダル受領者s have done one year on from the incredible Olympics

Fame, fortune, a gold 地位,任命する box, a stamp with your 長,率いる on it and a visit to Buckingham Palace to collect an honour from The Queen.

For those 43 競技者s who 連合させるd to 勝利,勝つ Team GB’s 29 gold メダルs during a delirious dance of delight for British sport, life could not have been better. Open the inbox, turn on the 動きやすい and wait for the 裏書,是認s and 招待s to flood in while you bask in the afterglow of the London Games appeared to be the way 今後 for those who had climbed on to the 最高の,を越す step of the Olympic podium.

By and large, it has been. When it comes to cashing in, however, not all gold メダルs are equal.
Within days of their 勝利s, Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis were appearing on the Jonath an Ross Show. Dressage team gold medallist Carl Hester was 招待するd to open the Onion Festival in his Gloucestershire village.

Hester’s チーム仲間 Laura Bechtolsheimer (now Tomlinson after her wedding in March) was asked to 参加する on her University of Bristol alumni team in University Challenge. She 拒絶する/低下するd. ‘I’m a natural blonde,’ she said.

‘I 熟考する/考慮するd at Bristol but I wouldn’t want to 代表する them in something like that. I’m a lot more comfortable doing the sporty stuff.’

With Hester and the third member of the dressage team Olympic 支持する/優勝者s, individual gold medallist Charlotte Dujardin, Tomlinson sat in the 王室の Box at Wimbledon earlier this month. When Andy Murray appeared to everyone’s surprise - as an Olympic gold medallist, the 招待 was also 延長するd to him - Tomlinson could not bring herself to ask for a photo with him.

‘I can only imagine how annoying it must be to have everyone asking you, although I guess for him it was probably やめる 冷静な/正味の if it was other Olympians doing the asking. I am very shy when it comes to going up to famous people.’

But you are one, Laura? ‘井戸/弁護士席, not really.’ Canoeist Tim Baillie 参加するd in ‘A Question of Sport’ but had to sit on the same 議長,司会を務める as Etienne Stott, the man with whom he 株d a boat as they ploughed through the white water of the 物陰/風下 Valley course to Olympic glory.

裏書,是認s have been another 事柄. Neither Baillie, nor Stott had an スパイ/執行官 事前の to the Games. Surprisingly, they have struggled to find one since. So what has Olympic gold brought them? Baillie said: ‘A bit of extra work that I didn’t 推定する/予想する. I’m always busy keeping up with emails and a lot of requests for school visits or charity stuff.

It’s only your own 良心 that makes it stressful. If you just 削除するd every email that you weren’t 利益/興味d in or where there was nothing in it for you, there would be no problem. But if you want to 持続する a 基準 of behaviour that you have done in the past whereby if people send you stuff, you try and reply, then it takes a lot of time.

‘There are 適切な時期s for gold medallists out there and when they don’t come to you it is 平易な to feel like you are 落ちるing through the 割れ目s. You think: “Oh, an Olympic gold メダル, 冷静な/正味の,” but then you realise where you are in the つつく/ペックing order when you see Mo Farah turn up to run the London マラソン and get paid 40 grand or whatever it was. There were a lot of gold メダルs.

‘I’m not moaning, though, because we had the 特権 to have a home Olympics to 参加する in and 勝利,勝つ. I feel very lucky from that point of 見解(をとる). It’s just one of those things, where canoeing is as a sport.’

New-found fame: Shooter Peter Wilson couldn't believe it when he was recognised at Glastonbury

New-設立する fame: Shooter Peter Wilson couldn't believe it when he was recognised at Glastonbury

Two of Team GB’s 列/漕ぐ/騒動ing heroes, Pete Reed and Heather Stanning, have returned to their 義務s in the 武装した 軍隊s for a year, in the 王室の 海軍 and the Army, それぞれ. Making the most of 招待s that arise because of their new-設立する status is a must for Reed, a member of the men’s four.

He said: ‘At one point I was 支援する 行う/開催する/段階 at a secret 石/投石する Roses gig in London with my wife Frauke, 足緒 Ennis, Bradley Wiggins, the 石/投石する Roses and Jimmy Page. And that was it. I make no 陳謝s for 指名する dropping. Rowers live like 激しく揺する 星/主役にするs for about two weeks every four years -and only if it goes 権利.’

For shooter Peter Wilson, it is the fame which has surpris ed him most. Wilson said: ‘I was at Glastonbury festival the other week with thousands of other music fans. I was sure I’d be just another 匿名の/不明の member of the (人が)群がる, but people were still coming up to me, recognising my 直面する and asking me about the Olympics. I was gobsmacked. I don’t think I will ever get used to it.’ While the rewards may 異なる, the gold メダルs that sit at home 部隊 them all.
