After Saturday’s 敗北・負かす, nobody knows what 未来 the Rugby World Cup 持つ/拘留するs for England coach Stuart Lancaster. By contrast, we already know what it should 持つ/拘留する for 示す Hopwood, managing director of the newly rebranded 広大な/多数の/重要な Western 鉄道. He has been a 災害. He has to go.

Even if Lancaster contrives to get the hosts knocked out at the pool 行う/開催する/段階, Hopwood will remain by far the poorest performer at this tournament.

The Rugby World Cup is 栄えるing にもかかわらず GWR, not in 共同 with it. Fans are getting by, and getting home, without their help. In an email 循環させるd to travellers this week, 示すd ‘World Cup travel tips’, Hopwood’s company had plenty of ideas on how to 避ける the (人が)群がるs, but not so many on what to do if you are part of one.?

They can just about get you there, they can’t always get you 支援する, they may leave you 立ち往生させるd and, even if they don’t, there is a 見込み your 旅行 will be 極端に uncomfortable, 国境ing on dangerous. Those returning from the Scotland-Japan game in Gloucester can vouch for that.

GWR’s 最高の,を越す tip seems to be to 避ける the rugby altogether. But why? It was July 28, 2009, when England were awarded the 2015 tournament. On May 2, 2013, the final 発生地s and schedule were 明らかにする/漏らすd. So that’s more than two years to work out that the last train to Cardiff from London on September 26 cannot leave at 10pm ― because that’s not 論理(学)の, not helpful, and not fair.

むちの跡s won magnificently on Saturday. So the people with the longest distance to 旅行 went home happy. But that’s not the point. GWR is letting the country 負かす/撃墜する. 訪問者s to this tournament are leaving appalled. It makes a difference.

One of the 動機づけs for hosting these 抱擁する, 高くつく/犠牲の大きい, 破壊的な sports events ― try 存在 a 地元の 居住(者) with all the roads の近くにd for 10 hours ― is to show your best 味方する, to attract 観光旅行,事業, to 伸び(る) repeat 商売/仕事. If part of any trip was spent 立ち往生させるd in a glorified cattle トラックで運ぶ, halfway up a 支店 line, that isn’t going to happen.?

Chicago, mystified at not 存在 a successful tourist 目的地, hoped to 利益 from hosting the 2012 Ryder Cup. Sadly, as it under-投資するs at the main airport, 主要な to three-hour waits at 移民/移住 and mumbled (民事の)告訴s of never again, what should have been a 広大な/多数の/重要な 宣伝 for a 広大な/多数の/重要な city was more likely to have the opposite 影響. It will be the same here.

Explaining the 決定/判定勝ち(する) to leave Welsh 顧客s marooned in south-west London, GWR said that 98 per cent of match tickets for Saturday were not bought in むちの跡s. Even so, that’s still 1,623 people short of a ride home. 追加する to that the number of tickets that were sent to English work 演説(する)/住所s, or to the homes of 追放するd family members, and a lot of travellers are slipping under the レーダ. Then 追加する 法人組織の/企業の tickets and sponsors tickets.

DHL are World Cup partners. If they have 100 in a 歓待 area, might half of those seats not go to the Welsh office for a fixture like this? It was pathetic that GWR hid behind a 偽の 概念 of market 研究 to excuse their laziness. Many more (機の)カム from むちの跡s than the two per cent 示唆するd; and even if the Welsh exodus was lower than 推定する/予想するd, might the 完全にする absence of return trains not explain that?

The 大混乱 in Twickenham ― and Cardiff last week ― has attracted the biggest headlines because of the numbers 伴う/関わるd, yet just about every rugby traveller in the west of England has a horror story.

After Scotland’s match with Japan, there were no 付加 direct services to London ― where most of the (人が)群がる were 長,率いるing ― and with thousands on the 壇・綱領・公約 a tiny three-carriage 往復(する) service turned up to フェリー(で運ぶ) 乗客s to a Swindon 関係.

On the 17.54, there was a fight, as fans 緊急発進するd for a square foot of space, and the driver 辞退するd to leave, (人命などを)奪う,主張するing the train was 危険な 予定 to overcrowding.

In the end, as people became uncomfortable in the claustrophobic 条件s, enough disembarked to move off ― a 不振の, sweat-soaked, all-駅/配置するs shuffle across country, barely standing room only. It was a 不名誉 and 完全に avoidable.?

There were 14,000 people at Kingsholm. That’s not even a big (人が)群がる. If Sheffield 部隊d got 14,000 for a home game in League One, the chairman would chuck himself off the 最高の,を越す of the main stand.

One of the policemen called to を取り引きする the punch-up spoke about nationalisation of the 鉄道s. It’s a separate argument. In 2008, Austria and Switzerland hosted the European 選手権, different countries, with several rail 網状組織s. They could still get people out of Basle in the small hours after a 半分-final. They just laid on extra trains, night trains, trains that helped the tournament run 滑らかに and 補助装置d their 顧客s. And yes, nationalisation is one way of 達成するing this ― but talking t o each other is an 代案/選択肢, too.

If Hopwood had spent いっそう少なく time on GWR’s 最近の rebranding and more time 運動ing his company to becoming a 価値のある partner to this World Cup, it could have been different. All that was 要求するd was 管理/経営 with the wit, and the will, to help.

Anyone who …に出席するd football’s 2002 World Cup was left 圧倒するd by the efficiency of the Japanese rail 網状組織. Clean trains, 急速な/放蕩な and on time, peopled by proud and 動機づけるd staff. So God knows what the Japanese 訪問者s made of the 大混乱 at Gloucester 駅/配置する.

They would know the course of 活動/戦闘 for an (n)役員/(a)執行力のある like Hopwood, though. Metaphorically, he should 落ちる on his sword.

DAN'S RETURN HASN'T SAVED RODGERS...?

It seems a bit rich that Daniel Sturridge’s return to Liverpool’s first team is said to have saved or 救助(する)d his 経営者/支配人, Brendan Rodgers. The main 推論する/理由 Rodgers is in trouble in the first place is the absence of a 最高の,を越す-class goalscorer. There is no luck here - except for Rodgers’s misfortune that Sturridge was out in the first place.

Manchester City's visit to Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday is big - but it is 兵器庫’s seemingly innocuous home 遭遇(する) with Olympiacos that is the must-勝利,勝つ match for English teams in the 支持する/優勝者s League this week.?

Fail, and they could be as good as out of the tournament by the first week in November. 兵器庫 and Manchester City are the second strongest teams in their groups, behind Bayern Munich and Juventus.

In this position, it is 決定的な not to lose to the teams below. 兵器庫 have already been beaten by Dinamo Zagreb - and their 支援する-to-支援する third and fourth matches are against Bayern Munich. So even if they 勝利,勝つ on Tuesday, it is not 考えられない that they enter the fifth game with three points.?

Nine points qualified from half of last season’s 支持する/優勝者s League groups ― but if 兵器庫 fail to (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域 Olympiacos it is as good as over. Only Basle, in Group B, made it through with seven points last year and no team 進歩d with six. For 兵器庫, this is 勝利,勝つ or 破産した/(警察が)手入れする.

FA LOOK LIKE FOOLS FOR BACKING PLATINI?

The most remarkable 開発 in the FIFA 大統領の 選挙 last week was the news Michel Platini was 用意が出来ている to enter a live television 審議 with other 候補者s. What is his team of マスコミ 助言者s doing? Have they never met him?

Platini would not last two minutes under the scrutiny of live television. I know; I’ve interviewed him.

Vague and glib, his absence of knowledge and preparedness even on 支配するs as familiar as 財政上の Fair Play or 支持する/優勝者s League wealth 配当 is staggering. Last week, Platini 認める he ‘might have told’ American 公式の/役人s he would 投票(する) for the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs to host the 2022 World Cup, before plumping for Qatar.

A short while before that 決定/判定勝ち(する) he …に出席するd a 会合 with French 大統領,/社長 Nicolas Sarkozy and 上級の Qatari 公式の/役人s.

‘Sarkozy never asked me to 投票(する) for Qatar, but I knew what would be good,’ he said. Wouldn’t that play 井戸/弁護士席 before a live audience?

Then there is the 事柄 of the £1.3million Platini was paid for services to FIFA between 1999 and 2002. The cheque finally (機の)カム through in 2011, several months before Platini decided not to stand against Sepp Blatter as 大統領,/社長. 明白に, just a coincidence. After all, who hasn’t waited nine years for their 給料 to (疑いを)晴らす?

Maybe he was on BACS. You know how things can be. He was probably 持つ/拘留するing on for Tim in accounts for seven-and-a-half years. We’ve all been there. The other 候補者s wouldn’t even について言及する it.

How foolish does the Football 協会 appear now in their 急ぐ to 支援する this 広大な/多数の/重要な 改革者? It was always a shallow move, 動機づけるd by Platini’s sympathy for Greg Dyke’s big 問題/発行する, 割当s of homegrown players.

Dyke thought Platini might do the FA’s dirty work in taking on the 首相 League, and didn’t even wait for the other 候補者s to 宣言する.

Now the FA are sticking by their 裏書,是認 of a 候補者 who appears ますます tainted by his 社債s to the old 政権 and, also, its most scandalous 決定/判定勝ち(する). In doing so, they look as 損失d as he is.

AND WHILE WE'RE AT IT...

The main 障害 to Tottenham moving 一時的に to the Olympic Stadium is the soured 関係 between chairman Daniel 徴収する (below) and West Ham. As 錨,総合司会者 tenants who do not wish their status in a new home diluted, West Ham have a say in who gets to play there. There is the 無視/無効ing 優先 原則 which 治める/統治するs any event that could have a 構成要素 影響 on West Ham’s home matches. Say the London 遺産/遺物 開発 Company agreed to 持つ/拘留する a Monster トラックで運ぶs 決起大会/結集させる on the pitch, the night before a home game.

West Ham would argue this could stop the match 存在 played, and the OPP would give them 権利 of 拒否権. The same goes for a West Ham game 繰り延べるd by the 首相 League or police: it takes 優先 over other events. Ground 株ing is covered by a separate 協定. West Ham must give their appr oval to any 提案 伴う/関わるing a second football tenant. 刺激(する)s cannot just を取り引きする the 後発途上国, without 協議するing West Ham. So, 徴収する will need a very 厚い 肌 to make that phone call; and West Ham will have to be in the mood to start 認めるing favours.

RUGBY CAN LEARN FROM FOOTBALL

A lot of grumpiness north of the 国境 last week, at the suggestion Scotland’s handsome victory over Japan seemed いっそう少なく about resurgence, and more to do with exhaustion, after the Cherry Blossoms’ brilliant victory against South Africa, just four days 以前.

It’s the same for all the teams, (機の)カム the cry. Everyone has to play one match with a quick turnaround - except England. And that last part is certainly true. England get かなり more breathing space than any 競争相手s with at least a week between each game. むちの跡s are on their 膝s with 傷害s going into the match with Fiji on Thursday. That isn’t 権利, either. Yet while Scotland, like Japan, have a tight four-day turnaround in Pool B, let’s not pretend that all teams are 平等に disadvantaged. Scotland played a knackered Japan and then the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs. Vern Cotter could afford to utilise his second string, with 10 changes, and still get the 職業 done.

Japan’s 支援する-to-支援する fixtures (機の)カム against the 最高の,を越す-率d teams in their group. This is a familiar pattern. Australia’s quick turnaround (機の)カム against a tired Fiji team, who had just played England, and then Uruguay. Fiji, as ex-Australian captain David Campese pointed out, were as good as 除去するd from the 競争 within five days by 存在 made to play England, then Australia. フラン play Italy a nd Romania in four days; Romania play フラン then Ireland.

It wasn’t Scotland’s doing that Japan (機の)カム to Gloucester with only half the 燃料 in the 戦車/タンク. They were 単に the 受益者s of the organisers’ preference for 設立するd rugby nations. For all their faults, FIFA do not 扱う/治療する any teams at their World Cup as second class. Algeria get the same 回復 time as Brazil. It is one of the rare things rugby could most certainly learn from football.
