In Walthamstow, the sky was red with 花火s. In the 郊外s of Paris, the streets were packed in 祝賀. In Algeria itself, the whole country reached a frenzy of 幸福感.

Algeria has waited a long time for this. They should have reached the second 段階 of the World Cup in 1982; finally, 32 years on, a draw against Russia took them out of the group for the first time.

That 1982 味方する lives on in the romantic imagination as one of the 広大な／多数の／重要な what- might-have-beens.

Four years earlier, Tunisia had beaten Mexico to become the first African 味方する to 勝利，勝つ a match at the World Cup, but that 業績／成就 was nothing to the shock of? Algeria’s 勝利，勝つ over West Germany in Gijon.
