Bruce Almighty (Cert 12a)

by CHRISTOPHER TOOKY, Daily Mail

Bruce Almighty is a pleasant surprise.

Jim Carrey is as hammy as ever, but in a rather engaging way, as a clownish TV presenter on a 地元の news programme who yearns to be taken 本気で as an anchorman.

He's so eaten up with ambition and self-pity that he doesn't 扱う/治療する his girlfriend 井戸/弁護士席 - even though she's 明確に adorable and played with 広大な/多数の/重要な verve and sexiness by Jennifer Aniston.

And Bruce has the 神経 to rail 絶えず against God for his bad luck.

So God ( Morgan Freeman) teaches Bruce a lesson by making him Almighty and thus 論証するing to him the meaning of 責任/義務 - not just as God, but as an adult.

This results in genuinely funny scenes where Bruce shows off his 力/強力にするs in shallow, self-serving ways and 最終的に in mildly touching sequences when, like 法案 Murray in Groundhog Day, he comes to realise his own 欠陥/不足s.

The last 20 minutes 国境 on schmaltz, but this is 害のない entertainment that shows off Carrey's brand of physical humour.

Some of the special 影響 gags are 奮起させるd. There are even flashes of 言葉の wit. I 特に liked the newly self-knowing Bruce's line "behind every 広大な/多数の/重要な man there's a woman . . . rolling her 注目する,もくろむs".

This is easily Carrey's best comedy since The Mask.

It's a must for his fans, and even those who can't 普通は stand him should find some enjoyment.
