Literary secrets of Nigella

It's something we've all done at 重要な moments in our lives.

Getting married or moving house is often the perfect 適切な時期 to shed the trappings of our old selves.

For some it means chucking out 着せる/賦与するs 集会 dust at the 支援する of the wardrobe.

For others it means throwing away 調書をとる/予約するs read years - if not 10年間s - ago and left on the shelf.

Now, it appears, 国内の goddess Nigella Lawson is no exception.

She has given away nearly 200 of her paperbacks to a house 通関手続き/一掃 shop and 供給するd a fascinating glimpse into her tastes - both literary and culinary.

A 乱打するd copy of Fat Is A Feminist 問題/発行する, the classic feminist work, sits on a shelf next to a 調書をとる/予約する of recipes by Keith Floyd.

A Penguin Classics Charles Dickens 株 space with a gaudily 一括d novel by a "chick lit" author.

Perhaps 恐れるing the publicity if she was rumbled 寄付するing them to a shop 近づく her home in Mayfair - where she now lives with husband Charles Saatchi after leaving her family house in Shepherd's Bush - Lawson, 40, had her old library 性質の/したい気がして of in the 親族 obscurity of Wandsworth Road.

If there is any 主題 in the diverse 肩書を与えるs she gave away, it is feminism.

Keen-注目する,もくろむd 取引 hunters can snap up, for 50p or £1, her copy of Shulamith Firestone's The Dialectic Of Sex (a 重要な work of new feminism from the Seventies), Literary Women, by Ellen Moers, or Gisela Ecker's Feminist Aesthetics. Did Lawson - whose curves have assumed a "have-they-shrunk, have-they-grown"? life of their own - finally tire of the 厳しい feminist line?

"I like to think that men like their women to be shapely," she said last week, at the first 周年記念日 of Saatchi's modern art gallery in 郡 Hall.

And what is A Feast Of Floyd doing there? The slender 宣伝の giveaway features such unfashionable fare as spaghetti with meatballs and breast of chicken stuff ed with spinach and mushroom. It's not 正確に/まさに roast pumpkin, radicchio and feta salad.

Here too is Margaret Atwood's The Edible Woman - although it's a novel, not a cookbook.

But rather いっそう少なく desiccated 肩書を与えるs are also 利用できる. Kingsley Amis sits on the same shelf as his son, ツバメ.

Tom Wolfe stands shoulder to shoulder with that other former enfant terrible of American journalism, PJ O'Rourke - and there are colourfully bound paperbacks, perhaps 遺物s from long-ago beach holidays.

In fact, from Amis to Zola, Picador and Pelican and Penguin, the 調書をとる/予約するs must 代表する a sizeable slice of Lawson's literary tastes.

Why she 性質の/したい気がして of them is not (疑いを)晴らす. There are no 手がかり(を与える)s in the inscriptions written in fountain pen ("Nigella Lawson 1983" it says inside an old Penguin copy of Isaac Bashevis Singer's novel The Manor).

Shop owner, Jamel Djema, does not know either. "She didn't bring them in. Some other lady did," he said.

"I don't 普通は do 調書をとる/予約するs but I have sold やめる a few. People have been buying bundles of them."

One delighted shopper yesterday walked off with Nigella's first 版 of Gandhi's speeches.

"It's やめる 乱打するd but I might sell it on eBay," she said.

Anybody wanting an almost pristine copy of The (n)役員/(a)執行力のある Tart And Other Myths - マスコミ Women Talk 支援する, had better hurry.
