Is Love Island 人種差別主義者? テレビ視聴者s turn on dating show after male contestants ignore the only 黒人/ボイコット woman for the second year in a 列/漕ぐ/騒動 as former 星/主役にする argues it 明らかにする/漏らすs the shocking truth about modern Britain

For Samira Mighty, 提起する/ポーズをとるing in a teeny bikini and waiting to be chosen by a handsome Love Island contestant last year was a painful experience.?

And it was made all the more humiliating as she was 軍隊d to watch over ten long days while one pair of young 希望に満ちたs after another paired up.

Of course, 性の attraction is not an exact science, and it may just be that the men in the ITV show preferred other women. Except for one troubling fact: Samira is 黒人/ボイコット, and all the men were white or mixed race.

Last week, her experiences (機の)カム flooding 支援する as she watched Yewande Biala 遭遇(する) the same 治療 on the new series.?

Once again, the はしけ-skinned inhabitants of the Spanish 郊外住宅 where the programme is filmed were seen coupling up first, while Yewande 設立する herself left until last.

The result? An 増加するing chorus of 批評 示唆するing that the sun-kissed show is tainted by 人種差別主義 ? however unconscious it might be.?

All of which raises questions about race and 多様制 in modern Britain, and whether as a nation we are やめる so comfortably 統合するd as we would wish.

For those who 港/避難所't had the 疑わしい 楽しみ of watching Love Island, it consists of 12 Instagram-perfect, fame-hungry twentysomethings thrown together in a house in Majorca and 招待するd to 'couple up'.

Once a pair have chosen each other, they then 株 a bed ? and いつかs have sex on the programme.?

It is without 疑問 tawdry and vacuous, yet, now in its fifth series, it has broken ITV2 ratings 記録,記録的な/記録するs, pulling in 3.7 million テレビ視聴者s for this year's 開始する,打ち上げる on Monday.

It has even won a Bafta, 同様に as 開始する,打ち上げるing its '星/主役にするs' into careers that have seen some become millionaires 儀礼 of lucrative 裏書,是認 取引,協定s from companies desperate to reach young 消費する rs.

Until now, 論争 over the show has surrounded the sleeping 手はず/準備 of couples who have only just met. But the shunning last week of Yewande has raised troubling new questions about the programme.

Yewande, a 高度に intelligent scientist from Dublin, wasn't chosen by any of the men, or 最初 even kissed during any of the 'challenges' the contestants were told to carry out.?

That only changed on day five ? Friday night ? when she kissed mixed-race firefighter Michael Griffiths.

Samira Mighty, a contestant last year and the first 黒人/ボイコット woman to 星/主役にする on the show since it began in 2015, says the similarity with what happened to her is all too real.

'I was 明白に the 記念品 [黒人/ボイコット woman] on the show, it was 平易な to work that out. I only had to look at the line of girls when I arrived at the 郊外住宅,' Samira, a West End musical 星/主役にする, told The Mail on Sunday in an 排除的 interview.

'There was nobody else who looked like me. ITV are desperate to be diverse, but that is coming across in a way that is やめる unfortunate for them. Yewande is a 記念品, too, it's obvious what is happening.

'She is the only 黒人/ボイコット girl, and has had little 利益/興味 from the men, who seem to like blonde white girls with big boobs ? or any 審査する time as a result.'?

The latter fact is 決定的な in a show in which テレビ視聴者s 投票(する) contestants out of the 郊外住宅 each week. The last couple standing enjoy a £50,000 prize.

'We 港/避難所't seen Yewande's personality,' says Samira.

'She looks uncomfortable. She probably feels out of place ? maybe her culture is different to that on the show.? She might 普通は hang around with predominately 黒人/ボイコット people. It's annoying and sad for me that in 2019 this 明らかな 分離 between people of different colours still happens.'

This year, 同様に as Yewande, there is a 黒人/ボイコット male contestant 指名するd Sharif Lanre, and mixed-race Michael Griffiths, 同様に as Anton Danyluk and Amber Gill, both of mixed 遺産 but caught up in 告訴,告発s of prejudice themselves.?

Pictures of Anton '黒人/ボイコットd up' and of Amber 拒絶するing a 黒人/ボイコット suitor 明言する/公表するing 'I don't like 黒人/ボイコット guys' have 現れるd.

Samira says: 'When 非,不,無 of the 黒人/ボイコット contestants were chosen last week, I thought how on earth is this happening again? I really thought someone might step 今後 for Yewande to stop this happening after the (激しい)反発 with me.

'ITV have tried. But I thought the programme-製造者s would make sure there would be someone in the line-up who likes 黒人/ボイコット girls, but no, nobody went for Yewande. She was just standing there and 非,不,無 of the boys were l ooking at her.

'In the challenges in which you are supposed to kiss the person you think is 存在 talked about by the 生産者s, nobody kissed her until Friday, and even then it was Michael.'

For Londoner Samira, 23, who 生き残るd six weeks on the show last year before walking out after finding love with Frankie Foster (the pair 分裂(する) when he cheated on her after the show finished), the 審議 is a tricky one.?

For the fact is that the 前提 of Love Island is that contestants choose each other on looks and looks alone. This, Samira feels, is going against Yewande.

'Love Island is so shallow. It's about first impressions. A lot of boys have their type and they're open about it. It's a shame Yewande is left on the shelf because it seems 権利 now she isn't anyone's type.

'However, it's hard to 非難する it all on race. We don't know what her personality is like ? she needs to have some 審査する time so we can see what she is like. I think people have the perception that 黒人/ボイコット people come across as a little 冷淡な and 脅迫してさせるing.'

Samira 収容する/認めるs for the first time that she became so 負かす/撃墜する about not 存在 選ぶd to be in a 関係 last year that she decided to 協議する a member of the staff on the show.

'It got to me after a while,' she says.

'One day I had a wobble, and so I went to a 生産者 because I thought maybe I was a bit different, and the boys just 手配中の,お尋ね者 to go for their type.?

When you kept seeing the white, blonde bombshells coming in with these amazing 団体/死体s, big boobs, you feel like 'Oh God, another one. I'm at the 支援する of the 列 again'.

'Anton, from this year's cast, 現実に 認める he prefers white girls with big boobs. The thing is, though, you never hear anyone on the sho w say that they like 黒人/ボイコット girls. I think ITV don't want that going out on 審査する, but it is 承認する to say, 'I love blondes.'

ITV would no 疑問 argue that there are five 黒人/ボイコット or mixed-race contestants this year, 同様に as Anna Vakili, of Iranian 遺産, out of 12 contestants altogether ? more diverse than ever before.

An ITV 広報担当者 said: 'We celebrate 多様制 of every sort and this year's Love Islanders come from a diverse 範囲 of backgrounds with a mix of personalities.'?

によれば the 2011 国勢(人口)調査, 3.3 per cent of the 全住民 of England and むちの跡s are 黒人/ボイコット, and 2.2 per cent are mixed race, so it could be said the line-up is 現実に more than 代表者/国会議員 of Britain's cultural 多様制.

Samira says: 'You can't get away from the fact that ITV have a show they want to get high ratings for, and their 優先 is to show the 演劇, not make sure someone we have barely seen gets a love 利益/興味. I think the 生産者s, at the 支援する of their minds, thought Yewande and Sharif [who are both 黒人/ボイコット] would get together.?

'I definitely thought that. Even though it is 2019, I still think there is a lot of underlying 人種差別主義 in this country.'

And Samira has experienced it herself. Since splitting from Frankie Foster, she has 設立する a new boyfriend, who is also white.

This has led to 批評 of her online by 黒人/ボイコット people who, she says, have called her 'coconut' ? dark on the outside but white on the inside ? and 告発する/非難するing her of not 存在 loyal to the 黒人/ボイコット community.?

'黒人/ボイコット people say to me they hope Yewande isn't like me ? they call me coconut because I go out with white boys. Of course I feel sorry for Yewande, but I don't know her. She might be bland, she might be fun, but we need the chance to see that and we aren't getting it, which is an 絶対の shame.'

For Samira though, one fact remains. The casting department of Love Island isn't putting enough work into 新採用するing men who are attracted to all types of women ? rather than just those with the blonde bombshell look.

'The 生産者s should work more on the compatibility of the contestants beforehand. They need to have a mix of people in the 郊外住宅 who like everyone, and who will give everyone a chance.?

'I want to see a Chinese person or an Indian person. That would be so good. This isn't just about 黒人/ボイコット people. I think it would be good to have many different cultures in there.'

Samira, who has starred in West End shows 含むing Dreamgirls, has made a fortune since she left the 郊外住宅 last year 儀礼 of lucrative fashion and beauty 取引,協定s with brands such as Missy Empire 着せる/賦与するing and Impulse deodorants.

But even now she says she often feels like the 記念品 黒人/ボイコット girl.

'I feel brands don't show enough 黒人/ボイコット or mixed-race people on their Instagram pages,' she says. 'I know I'm not featured as much as white people with brands I work for.'

She has kept in 接触する with most of her Love Island cast, and out of 尊敬(する)・点, …に出席するd the funeral of former contestant マイク Thalassitis, who took his own life earlier this year.

His death 誘発するd 批評 of Love Island and ITV, 尋問 their 義務 of care of its contestants. Samira takes 問題/発行する with such (人命などを)奪う,主張するs, 明らかにする/漏らすing that に引き続いて a 一区切り/(ボクシングなどの)試合 of 不景気 after Frankie cheated on her, she 接触するd the show and bosses すぐに gave her two therapy 開会/開廷/会期s.

'I 設立する it very difficult,' she says. 'I was so 負かす/撃墜する, so depressed that I went to the doctor.

'Frankie cheated on me and it was so humiliating. People were sending me ビデオs of him kissing other girls. I would struggle to get out of bed. I had always kept in 接触する with some of the lovely 生産者s, so I told them and they straight away got me a counsellor. It is a shame others don't feel they can come 今後.

'The 生産者s see everyone having the time of their lives on social マスコミ so don't know they are having problems in the real world.

'If people are 事業/計画(する)ing their lives as 存在 brilliant, then how are they do know that people like マイク are struggling?'

一方/合間, the growing 論争 over the racial dynamics of the show will continue ? 申し込む/申し出ing a microcosm of a society which may yet be a little more fractured than people might think.
