季節風 Wedding (Cert 15)

季節風 Wedding is Mira Nair's most heartwarming film since Salaam Bombay.

It's a rich, colourful portrait of a middle-class Delhi family trying to 融通する tradition and modernity as the daughter (Vasundhara Das), who has been having an 事件／事情／状勢 with a married TV presenter, 乗る，着手するs on an arranged marriage with a handsome Indian man she has never met (Parvin Dabas).

The 優れた 業績／成果 is given by Naseeruddin Shah as the girl's father, whose comic 苦悩s and paternal fussiness change into something more tender and 複雑にするd as the film 進歩s.

Darker 主題s, such as child 乱用, are expertly woven into the fabric of the film, yet 全体にわたる the atmosphere is one of fun and family forgiveness.

There were times when I was baffled by the sheer number of characters, and their 正確な 関係 with each other; but all in all this is a very 甘い, likeable film.

It is pleasant entertainment, and a rewarding glimpse of a foreign yet familiar culture that I, for one, find very attractive.
