難民 上院 希望に満ちた 掴むs 適切な時期

Fatima Payman wants to be the first elected 代表者/国会議員 to wear a hijab in the 上院.

It will be an important visual message, the 27-year-old told AAP from her home in Perth, where she's anxiously を待つing the 結果 of the 連邦の 投票(する) count.

"I want to show the 幅の広い Australian community that you can look different like me, and still 与える/捧げる to the betterment of our society and our nation," she said.

"There's just so much beauty in our 多様制 and strength in our まとまり."

Placed third on Labor's WA 上院 ticket, Ms Payman is in a strong position to 安全な・保証する a place in the upper house に引き続いて the May 21 選挙. 投票(する) counting continues with results not yet finalised.

Her inspiration to 捜し出す political office comes from her father, who travelled to Australia by boat in 1999 from Afghanistan after 逃げるing the Taliban.

"My father literally 危険d his life to find a better country for us. He travelled by boat for 11 nights," she said.

"Not only did he get out of the 拘留,拘置 centre, when he got into the 全労働人口, he also worked three or four 職業s to save enough money to sponsor us."

Ms Payman travelled to Australia 老年の eight and her father died from leukaemia, 老年の 47.

"Not only did he come to Australia (by boat), but he also (機の)カム to a foreign land, a foreign language, and started from scratch. It takes a lot of courage and hard work.

"(People) who have travelled by boat are seen as 犯罪のs, seen as really bad people. I won't 受託する that description of my dad. My dad was not a bad person. He was not a 犯罪の. He was an 亡命 探検者 who 手配中の,お尋ね者 to find a 安全な place to 設立する a living."

Ms Payman's work history 含むs 関与 with the 部隊d 労働者s Union, where she (機の)カム across the struggle of people like her father.

"There are just people who 乱用 移民,移住(する)s," she said.

"(Others) take advantage of the fact they don't know their 権利s. So, the uni on movement helped me understand there is a 壇・綱領・公約 where 労働者s' 権利s should be 保護するd."

As a 難民, she understands the struggles of people who have been separated from their families and the resultant mental health 問題/発行するs.

"That's going to be one of the areas I would like to look into, should I be elected," she said of the 一時的な ビザ 手はず/準備 that 妨げる 難民s living in Australia from 再会させるing with family members.

The Labor 政府 has 支持する/優勝者d its 多様制, with a 大臣の 顔触れ 含むing the first 女性(の) イスラム教徒 大臣, Anne Aly, and the first イスラム教徒 to serve in 閣僚, Ed Husic.

議会's lower house will also 含む 独立した・無所属 Dai Le, 加える Labor's Michelle Ananda-Rajah, Zaneta Mascarenhas and Sam Lim.

Ms Payman's grandfather served in 議会 in Afghanistan. Her father kept the political discussion alive around the dinner (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する.

"I did not think I would come this far. We are in the land of 適切な時期s," she said.
