Carp '疫病/悩ます' after major Vic, NSW floods

A carp "疫病/悩ます" has descended on flood-攻撃する,衝突する parts of the Murray-Darling 水盤/入り江, creating 頭痛s for 農業者s and 関心s about the 衝撃 on native fish.

酪農場 農業者 Heather Campbell, who manages about 200 cows on a 所有物/資産/財産 at Cohuna in Victoria's north, said thousands of dead juvenile carp were rotting in her paddocks に引き続いて 普及した flooding.

"I have a really poor sense of smell and I can smell it. So that must mean it's really bad," she told AAP.

"I've got no idea how long it takes to (疑いを)晴らす what's 効果的に a carp 疫病/悩ます out of the system. It's not just at our end; it's through everywhere and it's going to get into the Murray River."

Ms Campbell said the carp got into the irrigation system, with nearby 所有物/資産/財産s in the Victorian/NSW 国境 town now 取引,協定ing with the same problem.

"The 規模 is just so much more than we've had before. In the past, we've had a few fish, not a few thousand, every time we water a paddock," she said.

The carp are appearing in waves and Ms Campbell is 関心d her 酪農場 cows could be exposed to botulism or other 病気s by eating the decaying remains, 潜在的に 殺人,大当り them or 影響する/感情ing their milk.

"Cows aren't meant to be fed any animal 構成要素 at all," she said.

Ms Campbell 計画(する)s to 築く 一時的な 盗品故買者ing around the dead fish to keep her cows (疑いを)晴らす but 推定する/予想するs the "feral" stench to より悪くする ahead of a streak of 40 degrees Celsius days 予測(する) from Thursday.

The October floods 原因(となる)d a large carp 産む/飼育するing event in creeks and rivers across much of the southern Murray-Darling 水盤/入り江, によれば the North Central Catchment 管理/経営 当局.

"The timin g of the floods late in the season meant adult carp were more active in New South むちの跡s and Victorian 水路s, and bred more than if the flooding had been earlier," it said in a social マスコミ 地位,任命する on Monday.

Carp are known to 再生する in floodplains, with their larvae and juvenile fish 分散させるing and migrating 支援する to main 水路s.

But not all make it.

"It is ありふれた for large numbers of these fish, 特に juveniles, to be 立ち往生させるd on the floodplain where they die," a Department of Energy, 環境 and 気候 活動/戦闘 spokesperson said.

当局 are 勧めるing 農業者s to move livestock away from areas with 分解するing fish and 供給する 代案/選択肢 drinking water if dams and other sources are 汚染するd.

Only when the dead fish are 除去するd or fully 分解するd should livestock be re-introduced to 影響する/感情d land.

The 全住民 にわか景気 could also lead to the pest fish spreading その上の into the 以前 carp-解放する/自由な upper reaches of the river system, the Invasive 種類 会議 said.

Darryn Clifton, who lives west of the NSW outback town of Menindee, stopped to film thousands of carp 群れているing the Main Weir on the Darling River on Sunday.

He's in the area every week and keeps an 注目する,もくろむ on the flooding as a 副/悪徳行為 大統領,/社長 of the Darling River 活動/戦闘 Group.

"I just couldn't believe the 量 of carp that were in the shallows. There were just 集まりs on 集まりs of juvenile carp trying to get up river," Mr Clifton told AAP.

"(The 政府) has got to really come up with something 重要な that's going to eradicate them and leave our native fish to 栄える."

頂点(に達する) 洪水s may still not have reached Menindee and are 跡をつけるing along the Murray Ri ver into South Australian communities, 衝撃ing about 3400 所有物/資産/財産s in the 明言する/公表する.
