New RBA boss to follow Lowe's lead on 利益/興味 率s

The Reserve Bank of Australia has a new leader but the 内部の 選ぶ is ありそうもない to 逸脱する far from her 前任者's path when it comes to setting 利益/興味 率s.

Philip Lowe will be 取って代わるd by Michele Bullock when his seven-year 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 finishes in September, making her the first woman to 長,率いる the central bank in its 63-year history.

Ms Bullock has served as 副 知事 since April 2022 after a 近づく four-10年間 RBA career, which has 含むd several 上級の positions.

総理大臣 Anthony Albanese said Ms Bullock was "eminently qualified".

"Michele will be in an important 職業 at an important time with the challenges we 直面する globally," he said on Friday.

Ms Bullock said she was 深く,強烈に honoured to be 任命するd.

"It is a challenging time to be coming into this 役割 but I will be supported by a strong (n)役員/(a)執行力のある team and boards," she said in a 声明.

The 首相 thanked Dr Lowe for his service, 特に for his 成果/努力s to support the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 政府 considered a shortlist of 候補者s that 含むd Ms Bullock, 財務省 長官 Steven Kennedy and 財政/金融 長官 Jenny Wilkinson.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers said Ms Bullock 代表するd the best combination of experience and 専門的知識 along with a fresh leadership 視野.

"This is the 権利 call but it's not an 平易な call," he said.

The treasurer said Dr Lowe's 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 was ending with 尊敬(する)・点, 感謝 and dignity, 公式文書,認めるing that 延長するing an RBA 知事's 任期 was an "exception rather than a 支配する".

Dr Lowe was at the 舵輪/支配 of the bank throughout the 騒然とした pandemic period but it was during the 回復 段階 that his leadership landed him in hot water.

His 予測 利益/興味 率s would stay on 持つ/拘留する at low levels until 2024 attracted 批評 after the RBA 解除するd 率s much earlier in 返答 to 急速な/放蕩な-rising インフレーション.

The 知事 later apologised for not adequately communicating the caveats 大(公)使館員d to his 指導/手引.

Dr Lowe has also been in the 最高の,を越す 職業 throughout an 独立した・無所属 review and has 確認するd the bank will 行為/法令/行動する on most of the 推薦s.

Ms Bullock will have the challenging 職業 of steering 改革(する) 同様に as the unfinished 仕事 of returning インフレーション to 的.

インフレーション has passed its 頂点(に達する) but was still growing at 5.6 per cent 毎年 in May, 井戸/弁護士席 above the two-three per cent 的 範囲.

Most 経済学者s agreed borrowers could 推定する/予想する to see a 延長/続編 of 通貨の 政策 決定/判定勝ち(する)-making, with Ms Bullock 伴う/関わるd in all the 会合s in the 現在の 強化するing cycle.

UNSW 商売/仕事 School associate professor 示す Humphrey-Jenner said 非,不,無 of Ms Bullock's communications to date 示唆するd her 見解(をとる)s deviated much from those of her 前任者.

He told AAP the 強化するing cycle will likely have ended by the time she takes the reins, and her first 実験(する) as leader will be 決定するing how long to keep 利益/興味 率s high before cutting them.

Former 財務省 公式の/役人 and 経済学者 Steven Hamilton said Ms Bullock was the best 選択 but there was a valid argument to bring in an 部外者 to "shake things up" in light of the review findings.

He told ABC TV the 決定/判定勝ち(する) to go with an insider, who was still able to 器具/実施する change but ありそうもない to "脅す the horses", was the 権利 one given the uncert ain 経済的な 環境.

Mr Hamilton said the review did call for some "pretty 劇の" cultural and governance changes and 任命するing someone who had been at the 会・原則 for 40 years raised a "合法的 question".

But he said Dr Lowe should not be criticised for 解除するing 利益/興味 率s to 取り組む high インフレーション as the RBA has been doing since May 2022.
