Young Matilda uniform equality calls ahead of World Cup

Young Matilda Emma Ilijoski is asking for something she never thought she could have: a サッカー uniform that 現実に fits.

Millions of women around the world have been 軍隊d to play in ill-fitting men's 道具s.

In Australia, at least 96 per cent of women play in men's shorts and jerseys, a Professional Footballers Australia 調査する has 設立する.

"We got stinky used men's uniforms. Felt like we were in 解雇(する)s," one 調査する 回答者/被告 said.

"It was too baggy and I 絶対 hated it so I stopped playing football for a while," another wrote.

Ilijoski, a defender for the A-League's Canberra 部隊d, can't put a finger on the first time she wore a 道具 she was happy with.

"I started playing football when I was eight, so I remember having my shorts tucked up and my shirt to the 底(に届く) of my 肘s," she told AAP.

"Even now, I still have bibs that go 負かす/撃墜する to below my shorts and tracksuit pants that never fit me ever."

Ilijoski said it was not enough to be given new 道具s instead of 手渡す-me-負かす/撃墜するs - they needed to be designed in 協議 with women.

For example, men's shorts are 削減(する) in the wrong 形態/調整 given men don't have big hips and have areas of their 団体/死体s that need more 構成要素 than what a woman would 要求する.

Women often roll the waistbands to 縮める the shorts which 原因(となる)s 問題/発行するs like bunching fabric around the crotch area.

"You want to look good and feel good to be able to play good," Ilijoski said.

"It may not seem like it's a big thing but all of these small 詳細(に述べる)s - whether it's the socks that keep 落ちるing 負かす/撃墜する because it's too big around the calves - make a really big 衝撃."

Australian sportswear brand PARK has taken up the (選挙などの)運動をする, 開始する,打ち上げるing a 維持できる women's 道具 line in 協議 with 女性(の) players around the world.

PARK co-創立者 Sam Davy worked over two years with community 競技者s and professional international players to develop the 範囲.

"We heard lots of やめる ridiculous stories," he said.

"There was a player that was playing 支持する/優勝者s League football and the 道具 that they were given to play in was a man's 道具.

"They 基本的に had to put over the 最高の,を越す with stickers the different sponsors that the women's team had because they just didn't have the 器具/備品 for them to play in."

Women will be able to choose a PARK 道具 that 控訴s their 団体/死体 形態/調整 and how they like it to feel, from shorts of 変化させるing lengths and jerseys 特に fitted and sized for women.

Part of PARK's sustainability 使節団, the 道具 is also created with unique fabrics like 海草 and natural algae 治療s that elevate technical 機能(する)/行事 while lowering 炭素 放出/発行s.

Ilijoski hopes the (選挙などの)運動をする spreads 負かす/撃墜する to lower levels to 権力を与える young girls starting their sports careers, with Mr Davy 目的(とする)ing to grow the brand beyond サッカー.

"It's 広大な/多数の/重要な that some of the World Cup players get to play in 道具s designed 特に for women, but why shouldn't every player get that 適切な時期, no 事柄 their level?" Ilijoski said.
