Ponting wants 調査 over England's fresh ball

Ricky Ponting has called for an 調査 into why England were 手渡すd a 重要な advantage in the 形態/調整 of a shiny 交替/補充 ball at a 決定的な moment in the fifth Ashes 実験(する).

In what 証明するd to be a 決定的な juncture in Australia's 49-run loss at The Oval, England 納得させるd umpires to have their ball 取って代わるd late on day four when it struck Usman Khawaja in the helmet.

Under cricket's 法律s, balls can be 取って代わるd if they are 損失d or out of 形態/調整, but umpires must find a ball that "has had wear 類似の" with the previous one.

That did not appear to be the 事例/患者 in London.

While England 手渡すd over a ball that was 井戸/弁護士席 worn on one 味方する and 大部分は unthreatening, they were given a shinier Dukes ball that still had 令状ing 明白な on it.

The 問題/発行する was summed up in the 10 overs afterwards, where 38 per cent of balls (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域 the 辛勝する/優位 or 原因(となる)d a 誤って導くing 発射 compared to the 16 per cent with the old ball.

In that period Australia also lost the wickets of David Warner and Khawaja to Chris Woakes 早期に on day five, 最終的に 傷つけるing the tourists as they went from 0-140 to all out for 334 and leave the series level at 2-2.

Ponting, in particular, was ガス/煙ing over the 決定/判定勝ち(する).

"There is no way in the world you can even look at those two balls there and say in any way they are 類似の," the former Australia captain said on Sky Sports.

"I just cannot fathom how two international umpires that have done that a lot of times before, can 現実に get it so wrong.

"That is a 抱擁する moment in this game.

"There was 二塁打 the 量 of movement this morning from yesterday afternoon. It's a 抱擁する 失敗 that needs to be 調査/捜査するd."

Khawaja said he すぐに raised the 問題/発行する with umpire Kumar Dharmasena, and believed it had 劇的な changed the game.

"The big thing was that ball. As soon as they changed that ball, the first over they changed that ball I knew straightaway this ball is very different," Khawaja told the Nine 網状組織.

"I went straight up to Kumar and said 'how old is this ball you've given them because it feels like it's about eight overs old'.

"You could see the 令状ing on both 味方するs and it 攻撃する,衝突する my bat so hard.

"I've opened in every 選び出す/独身 innings this Ashes series and I 港/避難所't felt the ball 攻撃する,衝突する my bat as hard as that ball felt when I 攻撃する,衝突する my bat.

"It was disappointing for us because I felt like we had a real stranglehold on that game and today that ball was at 90 overs and it was still hooping around corners."
