Floods, サイクロンs, bushfires: summer shocker on cards

Bushfires are not the only natural 災害 on the Australian horizon.

The country could feel the "構内/化合物ing and cascading" 衝撃 of サイクロンs, floods, bushfires and heatwaves all at once.

Co-ordinator-general at the 国家の 緊急 管理/経営 機関 Brendan Moon has 警告するd Australians to keep other natural 災害s in mind as the country を締めるs for its worst bushfire season since the 悲惨な 黒人/ボイコット Summer 炎s.

"Yes, we are going to experience a warmer, drier spring and summer, but we also should 準備する for the 可能性 of サイクロンs, floods, bushfires and also heatwaves," he said.

The 連邦の 政府 will 演説(する)/住所 these 問題/発行するs at its first 国家の Bushfire Preparedness 首脳会議 at 議会 House on Monday.

The two-day event will host 250 代表者/国会議員s from 連邦の, 明言する/公表する and 領土 政府s, と一緒に 専門家s from 緊急 services, 産業 and not-for-利益(をあげる) organisations in an 試みる/企てる to 部隊 災害 管理/経営 機関s and 確実にする a cohesive 返答 to the bushfire season.

A ふりをするd bushfire 演習 will 焦点(を合わせる) on preparedness, 返答 and 救済.

It will also 診察する approaches for 攻撃を受けやすい people 含むing those living with disabilities and Indigenous communities.

Clare Gibellini, 首脳会議 attendee and board 長官 at People with Disability Australia, welcomed the event's inclusivity and said it was just the start of a conversation.

"The big thing is the 承認 that the best 解答s are going to come at a 地元の community base level because nobody knows those communities better than those communities," she told AAP.

"What I'm loving about this is this is not a 返答 首脳会議, this is not a 回復 首脳会議, this is a preparedness 首脳会議."

準備s for the 2023/24 season are 井戸/弁護士席 前進するd and 緊急 管理/経営 大臣 Murray ワット says he has 信用/信任 in the 計画(する)s.

Though the 解雇する/砲火/射撃 season is also "ありそうもない to be as 壊滅的な" as the 黒人/ボイコット Summer 解雇する/砲火/射撃s, 上院議員 ワット said the country needed to begin 減ずるing its 依存 on defence 軍隊s for 災害 seasons.

During the 2019/20 黒人/ボイコット Summer 解雇する/砲火/射撃s, more than 7000 defence 職員/兵員 were (軍隊を)展開する,配備するd to help with the 緊急.

A 議会の review 設立する this 依存 could 減ずる the country's defence 能力s.

"The reality is we have a defence 軍隊 まず第一に/本来 for the defence of the nation and we do live in a more uncertain 戦略の 環境 国祭的な than what we have in the past," 上院議員 ワット said.

"We need to recognise that every time we take our defence 軍隊s out to work in 災害 状況/情勢s, that's time they're not doing their own training and their own preparedness for their 核心 職業."

One possible 解答 is a 国家の community service style of firefighting.

"The 気候 is changing, the number and intensity of 災害s that we're 直面するing is changing and that means we need to think at the 連邦の level about what 肉親,親類d of support we can 供給する," 上院議員 ワット said.

The 2019/20 bushfire season killed 34 people and destroyed more than 2000 homes, cloaking the east coast in a 一面に覆う/毛布 of ash for weeks and 燃やすing through an 概算の 24.3 million ヘクタールs.

Since then, a new and 簡単にするd 解雇する/砲火/射撃 danger 率ing system has been introduced to help Australians better understand 解雇する/砲火/射撃 危険 and 現在進行中の 基金ing for the 国家の 空中の firefighting (n)艦隊/(a)素早い has doub led to $30 million.

The 連邦の 政府, 明言する/公表するs and 領土s have 投資するd $94 million in bushfire mitigation and preparedness this year.
