Manus doco 明らかにする／漏らすs lives of 悲惨
It's night-time on Papua New Guinea's Manus Island and Yassir Hussein, a 難民 from Pakistan, has a message for those in Australia, almost 3000km to the south.
"We are the same people, with different colours. We are watching the same Hollywood movies that you watch, we are listening to the same music that you're listening to," he tells the camera.
Hussein's words form part of Manus, a 文書の that recently won Best 文書の Award at the St Kilda Film Festival.
Manus director and たびたび（訪れる） Archibald Prize finalist Angus McDonald said the men featured in his film have moved audiences.
"Probably the biggest 返答 I always get is, 'We didn't realise how 平和的な and how like us those people are'," McDonald told AAP.
"Because what the film does is it lets those men, that have been there all these years, tell their own story about their 苦境 in their own words and that's something that happens very rarely around this 問題／発行する."
Walkley award winning 新聞記者／雑誌記者 Olivia Rousset, who was 密輸するd in to Manus Island on a fishing boat と一緒に 宗教的な 行動主義者s Jacob McKenna and father Dave Smith, 逮捕（する）d the （映画の）フィート数 in 2017.
The short film follows the stories of the 拘留するd men while also 文書ing what McDonald 述べるs as a 特に 緊張した time on the island.
The 拘留，拘置 centre was to be 公式に の近くにd on October 31 but hundreds of men stayed, resulting in a three-week stand-off between 当局.
Food, water, 力／強力にする and 医療の attention were 削減（する） off.
"The 状況／情勢 at that time was incredibly 極度の慎重さを要する," said McDonald.
"It could have been a big 問題／発行する for [the 新聞記者／雑誌記者 and 行動主義者s] if they'd been caught. They could only stay one night because the 当局 got 勝利，勝つd of their presence there."
The 文書の ends with the men left in limbo on Manus Island.
Since then hundreds of 難民s have left the island, with some sent to 施設s in Port M oresby.
Additionally, more than 630 難民s have gone to the 部隊d 明言する／公表するs under a resettlement 取引，協定.
The last four people remaining on Manus Island will be sent to Port Moresby in coming weeks.
Though McDonald says this is not a 解答.
"It might look on the surface that things have 改善するd but they 港／避難所't at all," he said.
"In some ways I worry more now because having been moved and scattered around Port Moresby, it's 肉親，親類d of taken the whole 問題／発行する out of the limelight.
"If we don't solve it 適切に there's every 見込み that more people could die or more people could 試みる／企てる self-害（を与える）. It's just a 延長／続編 of what has been going on."
Last week Afghan doctor Sayed Mirwais Rohani ended his own life, becoming the 13th person to die after 存在 sent to Manus Island or Nauru as part of Australia's 沖合いの／海外の 移民／移住 政策.
Award-winning author and 難民 Behrouz Boochani, who's poetry appears in the 文書の, said on Twitter the 32-year-old had been transferred to Australia two years ago after four years on Manus.
"It's very （疑いを）晴らす that the major problem with this 政策 is that it doesn't solve anything. It only （打撃，刑罰などを）与えるs その上の 苦しむing on already traumatised people," McDonald said.
The Gillard 政府 再開するd the Manus and Nauru centres to 過程 亡命 探検者s arriving by boat in late 2012.
抗議するs, hunger strikes and self-害（を与える） have all been 報告（する）／憶測d from the centres since that time.
"In 20 years time I think this whole 沖合いの／海外の 過程ing 政策 will be looked at as an incredibly dark 一時期／支部 in our history," said McDonald. "I don't think there's any 疑問 about that."
