Australia's oldest boy turns 100

But now Australia's oldest 12-year-old, Ginger Meggs, has reached another milestone. It's his 100th birthday.
Once dubbed 負かす／撃墜する Under's Peter Pan by former PM John Curtin, Australia's favourite boy made his debut as part of the Us Fellers comic （土地などの）細長い一片 in Sydney's Sunday Sun newspaper in 1921.
Ginger Meggs has 生き延びるd its creator Jimmy Bancks and three 後継者s but is still published daily in 34 countries, 含むing Australia, making it the nation's longest-running comic （土地などの）細長い一片.
To celebrate, the 広大な／多数の／重要な 広大な／多数の／重要な 甥 of 初めの artist, Tristan Bancks, has teamed up with the comic's 現在の steward, Jason Chatfield, to create a 調書をとる／予約する introducing the larrikin to a new 世代.
Although his look and the challenges he 直面するs have changed over 100 years, Mr Bancks says the character is timeless.
"He's got gusto, energy and resilience. He 追求するs these big goals," he told AAP.
"They often turn to 災害 but he always dusts himself off and tries again.
"We, in general, like to think that we're like that, or at least we'd like to be like that."
Ginger has kept kids company through 抱擁する events in history and helped them 過程 and understand the world around them.
He crossed the Harbour 橋（渡しをする） when it opened in 1932, met cricketing legend Don Bradman and more recently, has felt the 衝撃s of the 黒人／ボイコット Summer bushfires and COVID-19 pandemic.
"I think at one 行う／開催する／段階 Ginger also 発射 負かす／撃墜する an enemy 軍用機 during the Second World War!" Mr Bancks says.
However the comic （土地などの）細長い一片 is at its best when it 申し込む／申し出s children an escape from the world.
"For example, in the 広大な／多数の／重要な 不景気 Ginger was a way of people having a laugh and not thinking about their troubles."
"After the year that we've all had, reading stories about thi s character who's really resilient and energetic and 肯定的な is just what kids need - maybe parents and grandparents too."
Ginger and the ギャング（団） - 含むing girlfriend Minnie Peters and enemy Tiger Kelly - are still up to their old antics in the new 調書をとる／予約する, which consists of four stories.
In one 奮起させるd by Bancks' own son, Ginger dreams of building a billion-dollar empire by selling lamingtons, and in another the pre-teen 計画（する）s out his path to becoming Australia's 首相.
"The story is based on this line in an old Ginger comic （土地などの）細長い一片, which was the 主要な／長／主犯 説, 'You'll either 結局最後にはーなる 首相 one day Ginger Meggs, or you'll 結局最後にはーなる in 刑務所，拘置所. かもしれない both'."
Mr Bancks has written children's 調書をとる／予約するs before but the 特権 of penning this one is not lost on him.
"It means an enormous 量 to me."
"I feel so honoured to be able to play in the sandpit of this world that's been created 100 years ago and to get to use those characters in stories."
Mr Bancks is excited but nervous.
"My challenge was to try and make him 関連した for kids who are going to read the 調書をとる／予約する but also hopefully people who might have been reading Ginger Meggs for 70 or 80 years."
"I would love to think that (my 広大な／多数の／重要な 広大な／多数の／重要な uncle) would read this 調書をとる／予約する and feel as though I had 逮捕（する）d the essence of Ginger.
"I hope that he would be proud."
Ginger Meggs the 調書をとる／予約する will be 開始する，打ち上げるd at the Sydney Writers Festival on Sunday and is 利用できる in 蓄える／店s from Tuesday.
