'用心深い' Ueda 指名するd next 日本銀行 知事

The Bank of Japan has implemented a range of easy-money policies aiming to boost the economy

The 日本銀行 has 器具/実施するd a 範囲 of 金融緩和政策s 目的(とする)ing to 上げる the economy

経済的なs professor Kazuo Ueda was 指名するd Tuesday as the 日本銀行's next 知事, 仕事d with navigating a way 今後 after a 10年間 of 驚くべき/特命の/臨時の 通貨の 緩和.

The 尊敬(する)・点d 経済学者, 述べるd as careful and 用心深い, was a surprise 選ぶ for the change of guard after the 去っていく/社交的な 知事's 副 報道によれば turned 負かす/撃墜する the 職業.

The position will likely be 堅い going, with Ueda 直面するing 圧力 to join international peers in 強化するing while 避けるing panic by suddenly unwinding the bank's 長年の ultra-loose 政策s.

In an example of the 経済的な headwinds 直面するing Japan, data 解放(する)d Tuesday showed that GDP 拡大するd just 0.2 パーセント in the last 4半期/4分の1 of 2022, a smaller 回復する than 推定する/予想するd にもかかわらず a long-を待つd 再開するing to tourists.

"We sought someone who would manage 通貨の 政策 適切な while considering the status of the economy, prices and 財政上の 傾向s," Ch ief 閣僚 長官 Hirokazu Matsuno told reporters after Ueda's 指名/任命.

The 政府's 決定/判定勝ち(する) will likely be easily 認可するd in 議会, where the 判決,裁定 連合 命令(する)s a healthy 大多数.

Matsuno 述べるd Ueda as "an 国祭的な acclaimed 経済学者 with 深遠な insight in the field of 財政/金融", 強調ing the need for a good 伝達者 in the 職業.

BoJ 公式の/役人 Shinichi Uchida and former bureaucrat Ryozo Himino were 指名するd as 副 知事s, 完全にするing another all-male line-up at the 最高の,を越す of the 会・原則.

Ueda, a former BoJ 政策 board member, will take the reins from Haruhiko Kuroda -- the central bank's longest-serving leader and the architect of its 緩和 政策s.

Since Kuroda became 知事 in 2013, his 試みる/企てるs to 上げる Japan's moribund economy have 範囲d from a 消極的な 利益/興味 率 to spending 広大な sums on 政府 社債s.

In the past year, he has held 会社/堅い, even as other central banks 引き上げ(る)d 率s to 取り組む インフレーション, with the resulting 政策 gap 原因(となる)ing the yen to 低迷 against the dollar.

Kuroda, 78, is 予定 to step 負かす/撃墜する on April 8 when his second 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 ends.

He leaves 71-year-old Ueda the challenge of working out the bank's next steps, said Saori N. Katada, an 国際関係 professor at the University of Southern California.

"This is probably the hardest 職業 at the worst time to (問題を)取り上げる. Professor Ueda is very 勇敢に立ち向かう to 受託する it," she told AFP, 述べるing him as "比較して 用心深い".

Japan's 平易な money 政策s have become "extreme... and no one knows how to get out", as sudden pivots could "jeopardise 会計の sustainability", Katada said.

"In the next five years, though, the BoJ has to change course" as インフレーション, the weak yen and high 政府 spending make 緩和 unsustainable, she said.

The yen 宙返り/暴落するd from around 115 against the dollar in February 2022 to a three-10年間 low of 151 yen in October.

It has since 回復するd to about 132 yen, and 簡潔に 強化するd when Japanese マスコミ first 報告(する)/憶測d Ueda would be 指名するd instead of Kuroda's dovish 副 Masayoshi Amamiya.

Amamiya had been seen as a 連続 候補者 likely to keep the BoJ's 刺激 政策s.

But that does not mean Ueda -- who has a PhD in 経済的なs from the Massachusetts 学校/設ける of 科学(工学)技術 and served on the BoJ's 政策 board between 1998 and 2005 -- should be 見解(をとる)d as a 強硬派, 分析家s said.

"The 現在の BoJ 政策 is appropriate, and I think it's important to 持続する 通貨の 緩和 政策 for now," Ueda told reporters on Friday.

The bank's approach dates to the 時代 of former 首相 Shinzo Abe, whose "Abenomics" 計画(する) 目的(とする)d to 刺激する gro wth and banish the デフレ that 疫病/悩ますd Japan from the end of the 1980s にわか景気.

インフレーション 攻撃する,衝突する a multi-10年間 high of four パーセント in Japan in December -- above the BoJ's 長年の two-パーセント 的 -- fuelled partly by 急に上がるing energy 法案s.

But because the 傾向 is not driven by 需要・要求する or 安定した 行う 増加するs, the BoJ has said it sees no 推論する/理由 to abandon its 政策s.

Kazuo Momma, (n)役員/(a)執行力のある 経済学者 at Mizuho 研究 and 科学(工学)技術s, told AFP that Ueda had "never been hawkish with regard to the BoJ's 通貨の 政策".

So he "will 査定する/(税金などを)課す very carefully whether the two-パーセント インフレーション 的 will be 達成するd in any reasonable time horizon, and take a 用心深い position ーに関して/ーの点でs of possible 政策 changes," Momma said.
