Nigerian tech boss Iyinoluwa Aboyeji co-設立するd two 'unicorns' -- companies 価値(がある) more than $1 billion -- in his twenties

Iyinoluwa Aboyeji might not have the personal wealth of Elon Musk or 示す Zuckerberg, but his level of success as an African entrepreneur 耐えるs comparison with any Silicon Valley tech 巨人.

While still in his twenties, the Nigerian co-設立するd two "unicorns", an 産業 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 for companies that 達成する a valuation of more than $1 billion.

By most counts, Africa has produced only seven unicorns compared with more than 700 in the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs.

Aboyeji, who has many of the trappings of a 全世界の tech boss -- he is often known 簡単に as "E" and he wants to build a city 充てるd to tech -- says African entrepreneurs should have big ambitions.

But they cannot 簡単に copy-paste from the playbooks of Zuckerberg or Musk.

"We admire these guys, they're inspirations," he told AFP over the phone f rom an 投資家 会議/協議会 in the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs.

"But when we're looking for a path we don't look to them because they've got a 完全に different reality from ours. You've got to find your own way."

Now 32, Aboyeji now spends much of his time 基金ing startups, having left his 地位,任命するs in both of his unicorns -- fintech 会社/堅い Flutterwave and training 壇・綱領・公約 Andela, which counted Zuckerberg as an 投資家.

"Now I'm the coach, I take a backseat," he said with a laugh. "I had my time in the スポットライト, I played 井戸/弁護士席."

His 未来 Africa 会社/堅い, one of the continent's biggest startup 基金s, is 準備するing to 開始する,打ち上げる a new 一連の会議、交渉/完成する of 投資するing.

But it comes as tech 会社/堅いs across the wold have 削除するd 労働者s, and 投機・賭ける 資本主義者s have 強化するd their purse strings.

- An African Delaware -

The 全世界の 下降 has 本気で 妨害するd African tech startups.

They attracted more than $2 billion in 基金ing during the first 4半期/4分の1 last year but this year's 人物/姿/数字 is いっそう少なく than half that 量, によれば specialist 出版(物) The Big 取引,協定.

The 暗い/優うつな 人物/姿/数字s do not 薄暗い Aboyeji's 信用/信任.

"It feels like the 後退,不況 really 打ち明けるd people's ability to build all of a sudden," he said.

His 会社/堅い 未来 Africa has 投資するd more than $10 million in dozens of 事業/計画(する)s, many of them fintech startups trying to 改善する 接近 to 貸付金s and banking services.

未来 Africa helps them 開始する,打ち上げる their ideas and get その上の 基金ing.

But Aboyeji still has an 注目する,もくろむ for a grand 計画/陰謀 -- he is 舵輪/支配ing a 事業/計画(する) to build a city 充てるd to tech talent.

"Think Delaware, but for Lagos ," he said, 言及/関連ing the tiny US 明言する/公表する with low 税金s that hosts many international companies.

The 事業/計画(する), called Itana, 目的(とする)s to house thousands of tech 労働者s and give 会社/堅いs 税金 breaks and other incentives -- with a likely 予算 of $500 million.

Silicon Valley libertarian ideologue Peter Thiel is の中で the 支援者s.

Like 類似の 試みる/企てるs to create such "借り切る/憲章 cities", critics have said Itana will be a 税金 港/避難所 or an 選ぶ-out from 明言する/公表する 支配(する)/統制する.

Aboyeji and his partners have 繰り返して 否定するd that, 主張するing Itana is 位置を示すd within an 設立するd 自由貿易 zone and will 尊敬(する)・点 Nigerian 法律.

- 青年 'are not bums' -

Aboyeji is the son of a 牧師 and often 会談 about his 宗教的な 有罪の判決s, 述べるing himself as a "約束-driven 投資家".

"I 投資する in companies that have redemptive 質s. They save people, they 改善する people's lives," he said.

"They transform communities just like my 約束 does."

Aboyeji, who spent time at university in Canada and 賞賛するs the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs as "the 資本/首都 of 資本/首都", has a talent for teachable stories and has been a 正規の/正選手 on the TED talk 回路・連盟 for years.

He said the insight that led him to 開始する,打ち上げる his 投資するing career (機の)カム a 10年間 ago when he saw thousands of young Nigerians gathered in a football stadium trying to get 許可 to emigrate and get 職業s.

"You're not 取引,協定ing with bums, you're 取引,協定ing with people who are desperate for 適切な時期," he said.

He agonised over how 投資家s could help to raise incomes in a country where more than half the 全住民 are under 18.

"It can't be with 農業, and it can't be m anufacturing. It is the internet," he said, 追加するing that the 可能性s were limitless.

For example, African entrepreneurs can legitimately think about space travel, he said, 特に if their ideas can help communications in the way that Musk's StarLink 小型の-衛星s have.

"Never say never," he said. "But we're not going to do space 探検 or space 観光旅行,事業.

"I don't think we're there yet. I'll leave that for my kids to 熟視する/熟考する."
