When Dawa Yangzum Sherpa first 始める，決める her sights on 存在 a mountain guide, she was told it was no 職業 for a girl. Now she has 証明するd her doubters wrong, becoming Nepal's first woman to earn a prestigious international 資格.
Last month, the 27-year-old 完全にするd a rigorous course run by the スイスの-based International 連合 of Mountain Guides, often 述べるd as a PhD in 登山.
The prestigious 資格 has been awarded to around 6,000 people 世界的な and just 50 men in Nepal, にもかかわらず climbing 存在 a major 歳入 earner for the 貧窮化した country.
Sherpa belongs to the Himalayan 民族の group that has become synonymous with mountain guiding thanks to their 評判 for 存在 strong 登山者s with a natural 寛容 for the 欠如（する） of oxygen at high 高度s.

"This is a challenging field, even more so if you are a girl. There w ere people who said this is not a girl's 職業, that I won't get work or (asked) what will I do if I have kids," Sherpa said.
登山 is the lifeblood of Sherpa's home village in Rolwaling valley, which 隣人s 開始する エベレスト, and 得点する／非難する／２０s of its 居住（者）s have 首脳会議d the 8,848-metre (29,029-foot) 頂点（に達する）.
"I knew what I 手配中の，お尋ね者 to do. My passion was to be outdoors, to climb. And my family did not discourage me," Sherpa told AFP.

American 登山者 David Gottlieb, who 作品 with US-based 探検隊／遠征隊 操作者 Alpine Ascents International, remembers Sherpa showing 広大な／多数の／重要な 約束 when he roped her in for an ice-climbing trip in the Rolwaling Valley.
"It is something else to see that 広大な／多数の／重要な a 約束 of ability in a （手先の）技術 that not everybody is good at. And she 陳列する，発揮するd that すぐに," Gottlieb said.

After racking up a number of 首脳会議s of smaller mountains, in 2012 Sherpa was selected to join an 探検隊／遠征隊 organised by 国家の Geographic to the world's highest 頂点（に達する）.
"エベレスト used to be my 目的（とする）. I used to think that once I 規模 エベレスト it will be enough. But climbing is like an 中毒. The more I climbed, the more I 手配中の，お尋ね者 to climb," she said.
It was after returning from that successful 首脳会議 that she 調印するd up to become a certified mountain guide.

Sherpa is planning to guide a team to North America's highest 頂点（に達する） Denali with Alpine Ascents International this June, and will then return home to Nepal where she also 作品 as an 指導者 at two climbing schools.
She hopes that she is just the first of many wome n from Nepal who will look to the fabled 頂点（に達する）s of the Himalayas for a career.
"I didn't have anyone to look up to and いつかs 疑問d if I could do it," she said.
"But hopefully my small success will 奮起させる other girls to follow their dreams."
