It happened five years ago but "Andre" remembers 存在 kidnapped 銃をつきつけて like it was yesterday.

He was snatched from outside his home in Madagascar, kept 捕虜 and beaten for several days, until his desperate family raised the 身代金 money to 安全な・保証する his 解放(する).

For years, kidnapping ギャング(団)s have operated 大部分は with impunity in Madagascar, 的ing "Karanas" of Indian origin, who form a 15,000-strong community renowned for its wealth and success in 商売/仕事.

In his fifties, Andre says that a squad of four people arrived outside his house in the 資本/首都 Antananarivo one morning wearing hoods and carrying 強襲,強姦 ライフル銃/探して盗むs.

They bundled him into a car and took him to an unknown 目的地.

He was held in a 選び出す/独身 room, beaten, tied up and blindfolded while his captors opened 交渉s with his family.

- 'Try to 回復する' -

Andre 辞退するs to 明らかにする/漏らす the 身代金 sum that was paid, or say how it was raised, but he was 解放する/自由なd after seven days of 激しい 取引,協定ing.

粉々にするd by the experience, he fled Madagascar to try to make a fresh start before later returning to the country.

"I (機の)カム 支援する and took up sport to try to 回復する, but it's a 状況/情勢 I will never forget," he said.

In the last 10 years, at least 100 kidnappings have 的d Karanas in Madagascar, reaching a 頂点(に達する) last year.

"From what we know, there have been 14 kidnapping 事例/患者s since 2017, a 記録,記録的な/記録する level," said ジーンズ-Michel Frachet, 長,率いる of the Karana 活動/戦闘 group Collectif Francais d'Origine Indienne a Madagascar (CFOIM).

Frachet said that the real 人物/姿/数字 was higher still, as many families chose to keep silent.

The father of another 的d family said that all Karanas are assumed to be 豊富な.

"I did not 推定する/予想する our family to become a 犠牲者," he said, after his son was kidnapped and later 解放(する)d when a 身代金 was paid.

"We are honest, 普通の/平均(する) 国民s who didn't do anything stupid.

"They were very 貧しく 知らせるd about my personal wealth because they first asked me for an impossible 身代金: 500 years of my salary."
