Britain should give up 支配(する)/統制する of the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean "as 速く as possible", the UN's 最高の,を越す 法廷,裁判所 said Monday in a 10年間s-old 列/漕ぐ/騒動 with Mauritius over an 群島 that is home to a 抱擁する US airbase.

The International 法廷,裁判所 of 司法(官) said in a 合法的な opinion that Britain had 不法に 分裂(する) the islands from Mauritius before independence in 1968, after which the entire 全住民 of islanders was 立ち退かせるd.

The ICJ opinion comes as a 素晴らしい blow to London in a 事例/患者 that goes to the heart of historic 問題/発行するs of decolonisation and 現在の questions about Britain's place in the world as it 準備するs to leave the European Union.

Mauritius' lawyer Philippe Sands said there was "no wiggle room" in the 裁判官s' 見解(をとる) and that Britain would resist 圧力 to 従う.

Britain, while apologising for the "shameful" way it 立ち退かせるd thousands of islanders, 主張するd Mauritius was wrong to have brought the 事例/患者 to the ICJ.
