Taiwan 対立 候補者 Han Kuo-yu has 公約するd warmer 関係 with 中国

Taiwan's 近づいている 選挙s will be a "heart-続けざまに猛撃するing, soul-stirring 戦う/戦い" for the island's 未来, Beijing-friendly 候補者 Han Kuo-yu said Sunday in his first speech since becoming the 野党's 大統領の 希望に満ちた.

Han 述べるd January's 投票(する) as a choice between "peace or 危機" with 中国 in a speech to a packed stadium at the Kuomintang (KMT) party's 国家の congress.

Taiwan has been a de facto 君主 nation since the end of a civil war in 1949, but 中国 still 見解(をとる)s the island as its 領土 and has 公約するd to 掴む it -- by 軍隊 if necessary.

Han is looking to unseat 大統領 Tsai Ing-wen of the Beijing-sceptic Democratic 進歩/革新的な Party (DPP) in a contest that will be 支配するd by relations with 中国.

"This won't be a polite gentleman's race, it will be a heart-続けざまに猛撃するing, soul-stirring 戦う/戦い for the 生き残り of the 共和国 of 中国 (ROC) and Taiwan's next 世代s," he told the (人が)群がる, using Taiwan's formal 指名する.

"The people will make a most sacred and solemn choice for the 運命/宿命 of our country in the next four years. We will choose whether to defend the ROC or destroy the R OC... we will choose cross-海峡 peace or Taiwan 海峡 危機."

Relations with Beijing have 急落するd since Tsai (機の)カム to 力/強力にする in 2016 because her party 辞退するs to recognise the idea that Taiwan is part of "one 中国".

As 罰, Beijing has 削減(する) 公式の/役人 communications, ramped up 軍の 演習s, poached 外交の 同盟(する)s and ratcheted up 経済的な 圧力 on the island.

On Sunday Han 現在のd himself as someone who can 逆転する Beijing's 怒らせる as he 一連の会議、交渉/完成するd on the Tsai 行政's 国内の and 外交政策s and 公約するd to create "an 経済的な 奇蹟".

- 'Han tide' -

The 62-year-old has enjoyed a 素晴らしい rise in the last two years, 旅行ing from 親族 obscurity to become his party's 大統領の 候補者 in a 現象 that has been dubbed the "Han tide".

Some have に例えるd him to US 大統領 Donald Trump and other 人民党員 leaders who あられ/賞賛する from outside 設立 circles and 命令(する) a 熱烈な 投票者 base ブイ,浮標d by lofty 約束s of resurrecting their fortunes.

Han has been able to 召集(する) 抱擁する, enthusiastic (人が)群がるs during (選挙などの)運動をするing, where he has 公約するd to 回復する warm 関係 with Beijing and kickstart the economy.

He was a 親族 unknown until he 掴むd the Kaohsiung mayoralty in 地元の 選挙s last year, a shock 勝利,勝つ in the southern city that has long been a DPP 中心地域.

To become the KMT's 候補者, he saw off a challenge from Taiwan's richest man, 億万長者 Foxconn 創立者 Terry Gou.

But 憶測 is rife that Gou could run 独立して -- a move that would likely 分裂(する) the KMT 投票(する), or team up with 独立した・無所属 Taipei 市長 Ko Wen-je for a 共同の (選挙などの)運動をする.

Shih Cheng-feng, a political 分析家 at 国家の Dong Hwa University, said Gou would 控訴,上告 to more "middle of the road and younger" 投票者s compared to Han.

"Gou could be an Achilles heel for him," he told AFP

Detractors are unnerved by Han's 成果/努力s 促進するing warmer 中国 関係 and say his 人民党員 政策s are often 不明瞭な.

Tsai, also 62, has 述べるd the 2020 大統領の 選挙 as a "fight for freedom and 僕主主義", setting herself up as someone who can defend Taiwan from an ますます assertive Beijing.

Her (選挙などの)運動をする office on Sunday 拒絶するd Han's 批評, 説 his 跡をつける 記録,記録的な/記録する in Kaohsiung should raise alarm bells.

It also pointed to 現在進行中の political 大混乱 in Hong Kong as an example of why 投票者s should remain distrustful of Beijing.
