Saudi Arabia is building a futuristic megacity with 約束s of talking robots and 飛行機で行くing taxis, but for hundreds of thousands like academic Abdullah a simple dream remains elusive -- owning a home.

For many like Abdullah, a 39-year-old father of three with a rented apartment in Riyadh, this has 延期するd the dream of building his own home on the city's 郊外s.

After more than a 10年間 on a waiting 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる) for an 利益/興味 -解放する/自由な 貸付金 from the kingdom's Real 広い地所 開発 基金, Abdullah says it referred him to a 商業の bank to take out a mortgage 価値(がある) 445,000 riyals ($119,000).

He used the money to start building a house on a 350,000 riyals 小包 of land for which he took a separate bank 貸付金, but construction had to be 停止(させる)d in May after he ran out of money.

始める,決める up in 1974, the 基金 is a 政府 (独立の)存在 linked to the 住宅 省, and covers about a 4半期/4分の1 of Abdullah´s 月毎の mortgage 支払い(額).

The 基金 and the 住宅 省 did not 答える/応じる to AFP's requests for an interview.

But this is all a shock to many Saudis accustomed for 10年間s to cheap 貸付金s and a 税金-解放する/自由な lifestyle.

- 'Makes me angry' -

上げるing home 所有権 is one of the 重要な cornerstones of Prince Mohammad's 見通し 2030 改革(する) programme. Nearly half of the country's 20.7 million Saudis owned their own home in 2017, with hopes of reaching 70 パーセント by 2030.

The kingdom also wants to 減ずる the cost of an 普通の/平均(する) home by 2020 to five times the 普通の/平均(する) 年次の income, 負かす/撃墜する from 10 times the 年一回の salary in 2015.
