Even before a sudden 議論の的になる 禁止(する) on motorcycle taxis and tricycles in Nigeria's 商業の 資本/首都, Lagos, 手足を不自由にする/(物事を)損なうing traffic jams were a daily ordeal for its more than 20 million inhabitants.

Now just a week on, getting around the city has become even more difficult.

There are endless 列s at bus stops and (人が)群がるs of tired and exasperated 歩行者s, 強襲,強姦d by acrid exhaust ガス/煙s and the cacophony of drivers stuck in traffic jams honking their car horns.

"Monday, when the 禁止(する) started, I spent seven hours on the road. Tuesday I spent almost nine hours in traffic jams," says Ayobayo Babade, a real 広い地所 スパイ/執行官.

He tries to remain 上昇傾向. "Now I bring my laptop and I work in the taxi," he smiles.

"Nigerians are the most resilient people in the world!" 宣言するs 30-year-old Olaniwi Odina. "Put a 政策 in place, Nigerians will adapt, no 事柄 how stupid it is, we are very 患者!"

Recently elected 知事 of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, banned motorbike-taxis known as "okadas" and three-wheeled "kekes" 説 they 原因(となる)d road 事故s and we re out of place in a modern city.

Okadas in particular are 悪名高い in Lagos for their anarchic approach to traffic 法律s but are often 決定的な on its 貧しく connected, マリファナ-穴を開ける ridden roads.

But they do come at a cost -- between 2016 and 2019, there were more than 10,000 交通事故s and 600 deaths 記録,記録的な/記録するd, just at the General Hospital in Lagos.

- Buses unsuitable for Lagos -

To mitigate the 影響s of the 禁止(する), the 政府 発表するd there would be 65 付加 buses -- in a 速く growing megacity of more than 20 million people.

Critics say buses are in any 事例/患者 unsuitable for Lagos' 狭くする, 損失d roads, where okadas and kekes are 決定的な for both 輸送(する) and 職業s.

通勤(学)者s who would 普通は leave their cars at home to 避ける sitting in traffic, now have little choice but to 運動, clogging up the roads even more.

Thousands of 労働者s who do not 運動 and were reliant on okadas and kekes, have been 軍隊d to trek or take the despised buses, now 非難する higher fares.

"Before I used to 支払う/賃金 50 to 100 naira (28 cents US) for a 旅行, now you can go for 200 or even 300," Goodluck, 34, said.

The bus iness community too has attacked the 禁止(する), 説 it is 壊滅的な for Lagos.

"It is not a good 政策 and it is not a 維持できる 政策," the 大統領,/社長 of the Lagos 議会 of 商業, Muda Yusuf, told AFP.

The 禁止(する) makes Lagos いっそう少なく attractive to 私的な 投資家s and makes 兵たん業務 more difficult in an already overcrowded city, he said.

"This 政策 needs to be 緊急に reviewed, at least for tricycles to be re-introduced," he said.

- 'All we want is work' -

Entrepreneurs who have 投資するd several million dollars in developing Uber-style motorbike-あられ/賞賛するing services over the past two years have also 攻撃する,衝突する out at the 禁止(する), shocked that they had no 事前の 警告.

Many are trying to 勝利,勝つ 控除s from the 政府 but their drivers, many now 失業した, have been 攻撃する,衝突する hard.

Twice this week, young モーター-riders tried to 論証する against the 禁止(する), 燃やすing tyres on the road and throwing 石/投石するs at the police, who すぐに 分散させるd them with 涙/ほころび gas.

In the Ilupeju 地区, around 30 men continue to ride their okadas, in 反抗 of the 禁止(する).

"All we want is work!" yells Johnson Oseni.

"The 政府 doesn't help us, it is the opposite, we 支払う/賃金 税金s, we 料金d our families, our children, we work hard, leave us (alone)," he 嘆願d.

Another driver, Aminu Jibril, 20, fled the northeastern 明言する/公表する of Borno, where jihadist 暴動 is rife to come to Lagos to 熟考する/考慮する and he 運動s to help 支払う/賃金 his 料金s.

"Once I'm a 卒業生(する) I was hoping to get a real 職業," he says, lamenting the 禁止(する) which has dented his 計画(する)s.

"The 政府 doesn't care about poor people."
