Robotic ブイ,浮標s developed to keep 大西洋 権利 鯨s 安全な

A Cape Cod science 中心 and one of the world´s largest shipping 商売/仕事s are 共同製作 on a 事業/計画(する) to use robotic ブイ,浮標s to 保護する a 消えるing 鯨 from lethal 衝突/不一致s with ships.

A lab at 支持を得ようと努めるd 穴を開ける 海洋学の 会・原則 developed the 科学(工学)技術, which uses ブイ,浮標s and underwater gliders to 記録,記録的な/記録する 鯨 sounds in 近づく real time. The robotic recorders give scientists, 水夫s and the public an idea of the 場所 of rare North 大西洋 権利 鯨s, said 示す Baumgartner, a 海洋 ecologist with 支持を得ようと努めるd 穴を開ける whose lab also operates the ブイ,浮標s.

The 鯨s number いっそう少なく than 340 in the world and ship strikes are one of the biggest 脅しs to their 存在, as they travel through some of the busiest stretches of ocean on the 惑星. Now, French shipping 巨大(な) CMA CGM is working with 支持を得ようと努めるd 穴を開ける to (軍隊を)展開する,配備する two of the robotic ブイ,浮標s off of Norfolk, Virginia, and Savannah, Georgia.

CMA CGM is 基金ing the (軍隊などの)展開,配備 of the ブイ,浮標s, which will 追加する to the data collected by six others off the East Coast, Baumgartner said. The two new ブイ,浮標s could be (軍隊を)展開する,配備するd for 実験(する)ing soon, he said.

"We have to change our 産業の practices when 鯨s are around. That's what this tech enables," Baumgartner said. "Having the 産業 tell us what 作品 and what doesn't is the best way to have 解答s that will 現実に be 器具/実施するd."

The 鯨s were once abundant off the East Coast, but their 全住民s were decimated 世代s ago by 商業の 捕鯨. These days, they're 攻撃を受けやすい to ship 衝突/不一致s and entanglement in fishing gear. And they've dwindled in 全住民 in 最近の years because of high mortality and poor reproduction.

Acoustic ブイ,浮標s are equipped with 科学(工学)技術 developed at 支持を得ようと努めるd 穴を開ける 海洋学の 会・原則, that can (悪事,秘密などを)発見する, 分類する, and 報告(する)/憶測 the sounds of 海洋 animals in 近づく real-time. 支持を得ようと努めるd 穴を開ける is working with a French shipping company to (軍隊を)展開する,配備する more of the ブイ,浮標s to 保護する rare North 大西洋 権利 鯨s. The 鯨s are 補佐官d by a コンビナート/複合体 網状組織 of 保護するd areas and shipping 制限s. However, scientists have sounded alarms recently that the 鯨s have been strayin g outside of 保護するd areas in search of food as waters warm. That has made them more 攻撃を受けやすい.

代表者/国会議員s for CMA CGM, which has a U.S. (警察,軍隊などの)本部 in Norfolk, said the company chose to 位置を示す ブイ,浮標s off the Virginia city and Savannah because those are の中で the busiest shipping ports in the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs. Ed Aldridge, 大統領,/社長 of CMA CGM America, said it's an 成果/努力 to "responsibly 株 the ocean with 海洋 哺乳動物s and 保護する 危うくするd 種類."

The company is 支払う/賃金ing for the construction, 維持/整備 and 操作/手術 of the ブイ,浮標s for three years, said Heather 支持を得ようと努めるd, director of sustainability for CMA CGM America. The company 拒絶する/低下するd to 公表する/暴露する the cost of the 事業/計画(する). It hopes to build a 国際借款団/連合 of shippers that use this 肉親,親類d of 科学(工学)技術 to 保護する 鯨s, 支持を得ようと努めるd said.

"It's an 投資 we're making in the 未来 of the seas and the 未来 of the 権利 鯨," she said.

Acoustic recorders have 跡をつけるd 鯨 sounds for 10年間s, but the ブイ,浮標s that 供給する sound in 近づく real time are a 比較して 最近の 発明, Baumgartner said. The robotic ブイ,浮標s make data 利用できる every couple of hours as …に反対するd to months later, he said.

The results go on a public website and are also used by 連邦の 当局 to help make 決定/判定勝ち(する)s about when to 発表する "権利 鯨 slow zones," which call on 大型船 操作者s to slow 負かす/撃墜する to 10 knots (11.5 mph) or いっそう少なく.

The data "許す us to send (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) to 水夫s quickly so those that are able can take 活動/戦闘 (by slowing 負かす/撃墜する or 避けるing the areas) to 減ずる the 危険 of 大型船 strike, which is one of the largest 脅しs to this 危うくするd 全住民," scientists Diane Borggaard and Genevieve Davis of the 国家の 大洋の and Atmospheric 行政 said in a 共同の 声明.

自然保護 groups and academics also use the data collected by the robotic ブイ,浮標s. They're also used on the West Coast to help 保護する blue, fin and 猫背/ザトウ鯨 鯨s, said Callie Steffen, a 事業/計画(する) scientist with 鯨 安全な in Santa Barbara, California.

"We hope shipping companies will 統合する this," Steffen said. "It's a Smokey 耐える 解雇する/砲火/射撃 警告, but for 鯨 presence."
