Review: A Marvel villain comes into 焦点（を合わせる） in `Ant-Man 3´
Peyton Reed´s "Ant-Man" films have 一般に served as a 肉親，親類d of palate cleanser to the world-ending 火刑／賭けるs of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. Paul Rudd´s Scott Lang is just an ordinary dude, or so they keep telling us, who still can´t really believe that he´s part of the Avengers at all. He gets to be the wide-注目する，もくろむd middle-老年の fanboy of the group in those films. In his own films, he´s just living a blue-sky life in San Francisco as an affable 選び出す／独身 dad and ex-反対／詐欺 who was once 解雇する／砲火／射撃d from Baskin Robbins and who has 時折の enemies to 敗北・負かす.
In this third film, " Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania," in theaters Thursday, he´s coasting on his own 地位，任命する-Blip celebrity with a best-selling memoir out, lots of fans around town and a 一般に sunny disposition - when he´s not breaking his teenage daughter Cassie (now played by Kathryn Newton, always an enjoyable presence) out of 刑務所，拘置所 for civil disobedience.
There is a fun, light, sitcom-y touch to these 早期に scenes in which he and his 一時しのぎの物，策 family, Hope 先頭 Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), Janet 先頭 Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) sit around the （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する for takeout pizza. They use their 粒子 科学（工学）技術 to 爆発する the tiny pie.
"I just saved us $8," Pym 宣言するs proudly.
But Ant-Man is part of the larger chess board of the MCU, so 自然に he´s doomed to be sucked into the multiverse mess, setting up pieces for more Avengers films to come with the introduction of a new villain, Kang (played with a maniacal 悲しみ by the 広大な／多数の／重要な Jonathan Majors). And the results are mixed. Reed has returned to direct with a new writer, Jeff Loveness, who has also been tapped to 令状 "Avengers: The Kang 王朝" and it´s hard no t to empathize with both for the logic 体操 要求するd to 支援する Ant-Man and his ギャング（団） into this 衝突.
Loveness, who 削減（する） his teeth in comedy and has an affinity for comic 調書をとる／予約する and B-movie absurdities, gives Ant-Man his own "星／主役にする Wars"-隣接する adventure. There´s やめる a bit of 不安 in the Quantum Realm, with scrappy 反逆者／反逆するs 戦う／戦いing against a powerful 支配者 with an army of faceless 兵士s. But he takes that conceit その上の and gives the 反逆者／反逆するs some personality and humor, 含むing William Jackson Harper as the mind-reading Quaz. The villain's a 殺人，大当り machine, M.O.D.O.K., that looks (knowingly) straight out of a "Mystery Science Theater 3000" movie and it is やめる entertaining. It´s both a nod to the fun of the ridiculousness in sci-fi and a 思い出の品 that Serious Superhero Films are いつかs just one crazy special 影響 away from 存在 Silly Superhero Films.

"Quantumania" also gives Pfeiffer a lot more to do as we, and Hank and Hope, learn a little bit more about Janet´s 30 years in the Quantum Realm and the さまざまな 妥協s and 忠誠s she made to stay alive. Pfeiffer is an unambiguous delight and the real 中心 of the movie にもかかわらず what the 肩書を与える might （人命などを）奪う，主張する. Ant-Man just finds himself in the middle of the mess, which starts to drag on in a muddle of sci-fi furnishings that 個々に are probably やめる 奮起させるd and 利益／興味ing but together just blend into a dreary mess.
It´s a shame because Reed´s films are 一般に so crisp and styled and are best when 焦点（を合わせる）d on characters, not worlds and Quantum Realms. "Quantumania" 向こうずねs when it is keeping things light and quippy.
But Kang, for what we can assume are bigger story needs, needs to be more serious. Majors is certainly 冷気／寒がらせるing and captivating, but Kang seems like a mismatched 敵 for a standalone Ant-Man film and the result is a "Quantumania" that is trying to be too many things. One thing it is not is a Wasp movie, though. Lilly gets a lot to do but not a lot of - or any - character 開発.
"Quantumania" sticks the ending, however. Without giving anything away, we'll just say that Reed and Rudd get to return to their 甘い 位置／汚点／見つけ出す, with a bit of a 新たな展開.
"Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," a Walt Disney 解放（する） in theaters Thursday, is 率d PG-13 by the 動議 Picture 協会 for "some sci-fi 活動／戦闘 暴力／激しさ." Running time: 122 minutes. Two and a half 星／主役にするs out of four.
