Deluge from 決裂d Ukrainian dam is 最新の 悲劇 for Kherson 居住(者)s since ロシアの 侵略

KHERSON, ウクライナ共和国 (AP) - Yurii, a former Ukrainian 兵士, knows all too 井戸/弁護士席 about living in his rickety attic: It was here, during Russia´s eight-month 占領/職業 of the southern city of Kherson, that he hid to 避ける 逮捕(する) by the invaders.

Now, the 51-year-old in 疲労,(軍の)雑役s is taking 避難 again, after the 最新の big 開発 in Russia´s war in ウクライナ共和国: A 違反 of the Kakhovka dam upstream on the Dnieper River that sent 洪水s 噴出するing through his home and rising to the low 辛勝する/優位 of his corrugated metal roof.

当局 on both 味方するs of the river - ロシアのs 支配(する)/統制する the east bank 近づく the delta, the Ukrainians the west - say thousands of people have lost their homes in the 激しい flood, where waters were still rising on Wednesday.

Like many other 決定するd and 反抗的な Ukrainians, Yurii has 直面するd 災害 after 災害 since ロシアの 軍隊s swept into ウクライナ共和国 over 15 months ago. Like many, his 怒り/怒る has grown over their perceived 無視(する) for 平和的な Ukrainians.

"They do it without pitying us," he said, clutching one of his three kittens by the scruff of its neck, "特に against 平和的な people."

"My house has 溺死するd," said Yurii - nom de guerre "Maidan" -- who 拒絶する/低下するd to 供給する his family 指名する out of 関心 for possible repercussions if the ロシアのs return. He fought ロシアのs and Russia-支援するd 分離主義者s in a 衝突 that began in 2014 and 増大するd into a 十分な-規模 war last year.

Kherson was 再度捕まえるd by Ukrainian 軍隊s in November, 場内取引員/株価 a momentous victory for ウクライナ共和国 and a humiliating 敗北・負かす for the Kremlin. The 居住(者)s of Kherson 迎える/歓迎するd ウクライナ共和国´s army with jubilation, celebrating the 解放 of the city for days.

They 持つ/拘留する の上に hope that the worst is over. Many 苦しむd 乱用s, 拷問s, and unjustified 拘留,拘置s during Russia´s 占領/職業. The Ukrainian 再度捕まえる of Kherson 即時に placed the city on the southern 前線 line, 直面するing daily ロシアの attacks from across the Dnieper River, mostly using 大砲 or drones.

These relentless strikes frequently 的 非軍事の areas, resulting in 決まりきった仕事 死傷者 報告(する)/憶測s. 一方/合間, the 大多数 of the Kherson 地域, 位置を示すd on the other bank of the Dnieper, remains under ロシアの 占領/職業.

While they´ll spend the night with friends, they 計画(する) to wait out the man-made 災害 and stay の近くに to home. They´ve spent their entire lives in Kherson, and didn´t budge even when the 近隣 (機の)カム under repeated 爆撃する.

After all they´ve been through, Galyna said she just wouldn´t believe the waters would keep rising.

"I´m not crying. There´s no point in crying. Nothing will help us," she said, before 追加するing: "We´ll sur vive, we´ll 耐える."
