Red Sox comfortable with 扱うing of 投手 Matt Dermody after learning of 2021 homophobic tweet

CLEVELAND (AP) - The Boston Red Sox believe they took the proper steps after learning about a homophobic tweet made by 投手 Matt Dermody two years ago.

Dermody, who was brought up from ３倍になる-A Worcester to make his first major league start Thursday night against the 後見人s, made the social マスコミ地位，任命する in 2021. It has since been 削除するd, but 逮捕（する）d screenshots continue to 循環させる.

The Red Sox said they were unaware of Dermody's tweet when the 32-year-old 調印するd with the club in January. Once they learned of it, team 公式の／役人s met with Dermody, who went through 義務的な anti-差別 and いやがらせ training in March.

"What Matt 地位，任命するd in 2021 was hurtful - and we 演説（する）／住所d this with him when we learned about it after he joined the Red Sox in 2023," team 大統領，／社長 and CEO Sam Kennedy said in a 声明. "We cannot dictate the 宗教的な beliefs or political 見解（をとる）s of our players and 従業員s, but we do 要求する they 扱う／治療する people in our organization and ballpark with 尊敬（する）・点 and professionalism."

Red Sox 経営者／支配人 Alex Cora echoed Kennedy's 姿勢.

"明白に, as an organization we made this 決定／判定勝ち（する） and done a lot of stuff to educate our players on the 支配する," Cora said sitting in the dugout at 進歩／革新的な Field before the series finale. Dermody gave up two of Jos? 押し通す?rez's three ホームランs and took the loss as the Red Sox were 強くたたくd 10-3 by the 後見人s.

Afterward, Dermody 表明するd some 悔恨 for his 活動／戦闘s.

"I do 悔いる the tweet in the sense that it （機の）カム out hurtful and it 傷つける a lot of people," he said. "That´s the last thing I want to do is 傷つける people. A lot of people think that I´m against a 確かな group of people or whatnot. But I´m for everybody making it to heaven."

Dermody is 推定する／予想するd to be 指定するd for assignment Friday as one of several roster moves by the Red Sox.

Cora said it's not his place to have an opinion on Dermody's beliefs.

"明白に, not too many people agree with the tweet of Matt´s," Cora said. "I´m not here to tell him what to say or to do. But one thing for sure, when you put this uniform on, what we want is for people to be inclusive.

"I think the clubhouse is a reflection of the world. We� �ve got people from different race, different beliefs, not just 宗教的な beliefs but also politics."
