Vermont を締めるs for more rain in wake of historic flooding

Vermont 用意が出来ている for the next 一連の会議、交渉/完成する of 嵐/襲撃するs - and かもしれない a トルネード,竜巻 - as people took advantage of 静める 天候 Thursday to clean up from historic flooding that 損失d thousands of homes, 商売/仕事s and roads, and left some 居住(者)s 立ち往生させるd.

As 洪水s receded, the good news was that there were no new 救助(する) 使節団s, dams were 持つ/拘留するing up and more roads 再開するd. The bad news was that strong 雷雨s were 推定する/予想するd to move into parts of the 明言する/公表する by Thursday night, which could 原因(となる) more flash flooding, Gov. Phil Scott said at a news 会議/協議会. 条件s could spawn a トルネード,竜巻, he said. And the 明言する/公表する could get more 強い雨 over the 週末.

"The period we are more 関心d about is Sunday because that could be more 普及した and heavier, but not nearly on the 規模 of what we saw earlier in the week," 国家の 天候 Service 気象学者 Seth Kutikoff said.

Scott said it's important for Vermonters to be vigilant, and that 含むs not going into the water.

"We've seen many pictures on social マスコミ of kids swimming in 洪水s. This is not typical rainwater - it's filled with 化学製品s, oil, waste, and more. It's 簡単に not 安全な," he said.

New Hampshire, where some roads, towns and campgrounds were flooded in several western 郡s, was also in the 最新の 嵐/襲撃する's path.

"We 堅固に encourage 居住(者)s and 訪問者s, 特に campers staying at 場所/位置s along rivers and streams, and campgrounds in low-lying parts, to know what to do if 避難/引き上げ is needed," said Robert Buxton, director of the 明言する/公表する's 母国 安全 and 管理/経営 機関.

Other New England 明言する/公表するs to the south were also 乾燥した,日照りのing out, 含むing Connecticut, where 公式の/役人s 警告するd boaters and others about dangerous 破片 in the Connecticut River, 含むing large trees. A ドッキングする/減らす/ドックに入れる with several boats 大(公)使館員d was washed away in Glastonbury, just south of Hartford, and was seen floating 負かす/撃墜する the river a few towns away.

In Vermont, communities were きれいにする up from the floods that were more destructive in some places than 2011's 熱帯の 嵐/襲撃する Irene and regarded as the worst natural 災害 since the 1927 floods, which killed dozens of people and 原因(となる)d 普及した 破壊. Unlike that event, no 傷害s or fatalities have been 報告(する)/憶測d with this week's flooding.

Transportation 公式の/役人s were moving 器具/備品 to areas that were considered more flood-傾向がある to 準備する for the 嵐/襲撃するs as they continued to 評価する 損失, 含むing to rail lines. Amtrak and other 鉄道/強行採決する service has been 一時停止するd.

One death in New York was 非難するd on the 嵐/襲撃する - a woman whose 団体/死体 was 設立する after she was swept away in Fort Montgomery, a small Hudson River community about 45 miles (72 キロメーターs) north of New York City.

Scott said he has submitted a request for a major 災害 宣言 to 大統領 Joe Biden. "It's separate from, and in 新規加入 to, the 連邦の 緊急 宣言 the 大統領,/社長 already 調印するd" on Tuesday, he said. If 認可するd, the 宣言 would 供給する 連邦の support for 回復するing communities.

In Vermont's small 明言する/公表する 資本/首都 of Montpelier, where the swollen Winooski River had flooded downtown, the elevator at City Hall was 損失d, making the building inaccessible, spokesperson Evelyn Prim said.

"Cleanup from the 危険な 洪水 損失 in City Hall is 推定する/予想するd to take several months. Because of this, City Hall will be の近くにing until その上の notice," she said.

申し込む/申し出s of help 注ぐd in, 含むing 解放する/自由な pet food from an animal 避難所 in Morrisville and a 寄付 collection for water and nonperishable food items at the University of Vermont. A Vermont Main Street Flood 救済 基金 was 始める,決める up to help small 商売/仕事s and the Vermont Community 創立/基礎 設立するd a 基金 to help longer-称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 成果/努力s for people and communities. An 年次の concert, the Do Good Fest in Montpelier, will be livestreamed and 行為/法令/行動する as a fundraiser.

"One of the defining truths about Vermont is that Vermonters look out for one another," said Dan Smith, the 創立/基礎's CEO. "We saw it during the pandemic; we saw it during 熱帯の 嵐/襲撃する Irene."
