Two teachers called out far-権利 activities at their German school. Then they had to leave town.

BURG, Germany (AP) - Two teachers in eastern Germany tried to 反対する the far-権利 activities of students at their small town high school. They counseled いじめ(る)s who 脅すd to (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域 up 移民,移住(する) classmates. They gave more lessons about their country's Nazi past. They 招待するd in a 黒人/ボイコット rapper to talk about 相互の 尊敬(する)・点.

非,不,無 of it helped. In desperation, Laura Nickel and Max Teske wrote a public letter in which they 述べるd an atmosphere of 脅迫 at Mina Witkojc School in Burg. They 報告(する)/憶測d students 迎える/歓迎するing each other with the Nazi salute, scratching swastikas on their desks and playing music with 人種差別主義者 lyrics in the hallways.

"Teachers and students who 率直に fight against far-権利 students and teachers 恐れる for their safety," the two said in the letter they sent to 地元の newspapers. "The problem has to be 認めるd and 率直に fought. Schools should be places 解放する/自由な of 恐れる, 十分な of open-mindedness and safety for everyone and cannot 供給する a home for the enemies of 僕主主義."

Even so, Nickel, who taught English and history at the high school, and Teske, a math and 地理学 teacher, were unprepared for the (激しい)反発 their call to 活動/戦闘 produced. A letter from an 匿名の/不明の group of parents 需要・要求するd their 解雇/(訴訟の)却下s. Stickers with their pictures and the caption "Piss off to Berlin" plastered light 政治家s 近づく campus. On social マスコミ, someone 宣言するd a 願望(する) to "追跡(する) them 負かす/撃墜する."

その上の disheartened by what they say was a 欠如(する) of support from 同僚s, the 主要な/長/主犯 and 地元の 行政官/管理者s, Nickel and Teske 発表するd when the academic year ended two weeks ago that they were leaving the school and the town 位置を示すd 116 キロメーターs (72 miles) southeast of Berlin.

"Far-権利 極端論者 声明s, 活動/戦闘s, スローガンs, homophobia and sexism were and are the order of the day at this school," Nickel, 34, who worked at Mina Witkojc for four years, told The Associated 圧力(をかける) in a 共同の interview with Teske, 31, who taught there for three years.

Neither the school nor the 地元の school 当局 答える/応じるd to the AP's requests for comment on the teachers´ 辞職s.

But Teske and Nickel's experience has 誘発するd 恐れるs in the German 資本/首都 that the far 権利 has 伸び(る)d a greater foothold in some parts of the former East Germany than many thought. 専門家s say that 特に in the south of Brandenburg 明言する/公表する, where Burg is 位置を示すd, an entire 網状組織 of tattoo parlors, nightclubs, 青年 groups and fan clubs of the FC Energie Cottbus サッカー team spread the messaging of the far-権利 代案/選択肢 for Germany, or AfD, party.

Earlier this month, Brandenburg 明言する/公表する´s 国内の 知能 service 宣言するd Young 代案/選択肢 for Germany, the AfD´s wing for 支持者s age 14 and above, as 特に 過激な and put it under 公式の/役人 監視 as a "proven 右翼 極端論者" group.

The 明言する/公表する education 省, which was 非難するd for not supporting the teachers enough, 発表するd last week that 当局 had identified a 十代の少年少女 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑うd of 初めは 地位,任命するing the "追跡(する) them 負かす/撃墜する" 地位,任命する on Instagram.

Amadeu Antonio 創立/基礎 (n)役員/(a)執行力のある Director Timo Reinfrank, whose organization 促進するs human 権利s while working against 右翼 extremism, 人種差別主義 an d antisemitism in Germany, told the AP that southern Brandenburg 明言する/公表する has become "a zone of 恐れる which the Nazis have 宣言するd as their home zone."

Reinfrank said that's not really a surprise for those familiar with the area, where the far 権利 was active even before AfD's 設立するing a 10年間 ago. The 創立/基礎 he leads was 指名するd for an Angolan 契約 労働者 who in 1990 was beaten to death when a group of about 50 青年s with baseball bats went looking for 黒人/ボイコット people to attack in the Brandenburg town of Eberswalde.

AfD was 設立するd in 2013 and first entered Germany's 議会 four years later after (選挙などの)運動をするing on an anti-migrant 壇・綱領・公約. 最近の 投票s show the party with a 記録,記録的な/記録する level of support 国家的に, about 20%.

The 推論する/理由s for its particular 控訴,上告 in eastern Germany are manifold. East Germany was a 共産主義者 独裁政治 until the 落ちる of the Berlin 塀で囲む in 1989, and many people there lost their 職業s after Germany's 1990 再統一. 居住(者)s still speak of feeling like second-class 国民s compared to Germans in the country's west.

AfD has used the coronavirus pandemic and the influx of 1.2 million Ukrainian 難民s since Russia 侵略するd ウクライナ共和国 as 適切な時期s to 促進する an "us vs. them" narrative and to 申し込む/申し出 what seem like simple answers to コンビナート/複合体 problems, 専門家s say.

Many think AfD could 現れる as the strongest pa rty when Brandenburg and the fellow eastern 明言する/公表するs of Saxony and Thuringia 持つ/拘留する 選挙s next year. In Thuringia, the AfD 候補者 last month won the 郡 行政官/管理者's 地位,任命する in Sonneberg, the first time since the Nazi 時代 that a far-権利 party placed first at the 郡 level.

一方/合間, (ドイツなどの)首相/(大学の)学長 Olaf Scholz ´s 中心-left 治める/統治するing 連合 with the 環境保護主義者 Greens and the プロの/賛成の-商売/仕事 解放する/自由な 民主党員s has a 評判 for infighting and 直面するs strong headwinds over 移民/移住, an 環境の 計画(する) to 取って代わる millions of home heating systems and インフレーション that remains high.

For people like Nickel and Teske, standing up against 右翼 人民党員s comes at a 法外な personal price. After the teachers 発表するd their 撤退 from Burg, the 長,率いる of the AfD 一時期/支部 in Cottbus, Brandenburg 明言する/公表する´s second-largest city, 元気づけるd on Twitter that Teske, whom he called a "左派の(人) 過激な 密告者," and his "共犯者" were gone.

The police are 調査/捜査するing 脅しs against the teachers, and officers patrol past their homes frequently. When Teske goes out, he often lo oks over his shoulder to see if somebody might be に引き続いて him. Recently, a man approached him in a grocery 蓄える/店 from behind and whispered, "Get out of here," into his ear, he said.

Yet he 辞退するs to see the 決定/判定勝ち(する) to leave town as a 敗北・負かす. By calling out the 悲惨な 条件s at the school, he and Nickel 誘発するd a much-needed 国家の 審議 about the rise of the far 権利 in Germany, Teske said.

"We will continue to be loud, we will continue to make a political 衝撃, and won´t let the far 権利 勝利,勝つ," he said.

Germany, where the Nazi party was elected to 力/強力にする 90 years ago and led the country into World War II and the 大破壊/大虐殺, has a special 責任/義務 to fight far-権利 populism, Nickel 追加するd.

"History repeats itself, and I believe that we must definitely do something now to put a stop to anti-democratic parties in Germany," she said.
