Kapalua to host PGA 小旅行する opener in January, 5 months after deadly wildfires on Maui
The PGA 小旅行する is returning to Maui to start the new season with the 歩哨 Tournament of 支持する／優勝者s at Kapalua, five months after deadly wildfires destroyed nearby Lahaina and （人命などを）奪う，主張するd at least 97 lives.
PGA 小旅行する Commissioner Jay Monahan had said last month he hoped the tournament could be a source of inspiration for Maui and Lahaina, about 10 miles away from where the PGA 小旅行する has started its year since 1999.
The 小旅行する sent a 覚え書き to players Thursday that it will be 支援する at Kapalua for the Jan. 4-7 opener. The 小旅行する 以前 had said Hawaii Gov. Josh Green told them to "go 今後" with 計画（する）s for the tournament and volunteer 登録 opened.
The wildfires killed at least 97 people, with at least 31 people still 行方不明の. It devasted Lahaina, destroying more than 2,000 structures and wiping out fabled 前線 Street that runs along the ocean and was a popular 目的地 with its restaurants, shops and art galleries.
The 所有物／資産／財産 at Kapalua 訴える手段／行楽地 was not 影響する／感情d, though a third of the staff who live in the Lahaina area lost their homes.
"Like so many around the world, we're 絶対 heartbroken," said tournament director Max Novena, who lives on West Maui. "It's a tight-knit community and we've experienced and 株d compassion and generosity and aloha, and it's been 奮起させるing.

"Playing the 歩哨 in January is our 責任／義務 and it's a 特権," he said. "We fully ーするつもりである to use our 壇・綱領・公約 to bring 認識／意識性, bring fundraising and community service to help West Maui and Lahaina 再構築する."
Green recently 調印するd a 布告／宣言 that most of West Maui will 再開する to 訪問者s on Oct. 8. The area has some 11,000 hotel rooms, half of Maui´s total. The Bay Course at Kapalua opened on Wednesday, and the 農園 Course where the tournament is held is to open on Oct. 18.
Tyler Dennis, the 小旅行する's 長，指導者 競争s officer, said in Thursday's 覚え書き that Green "has been emphatic in his support of our event and others."
"There is no other organization in sport which 決起大会／結集させるs around those in need like the PGA 小旅行する," Dennis wrote. "Given the 圧倒的な support for playing the tournament, the 小旅行する and The 歩哨 are 現在／一般に working on 計画（する）s to その上の raise 認識／意識性 and 補助装置 with fundraising and community service to Maui in a thoughtful and respectful manner."
The tournament last year raised $694,705 that went to 地元の charities, bringing the total to over $8.5 million since it became part of the PGA 小旅行する schedule in 1999.
