A Ukrainian train is a lifeline connecting the nation's 資本/首都 with the 前線 line

KRAMATORSK, ウクライナ共和国 (AP) - の中で the hundreds of trains criss-crossing ウクライナ共和国´s (a)手の込んだ/(v)詳述する 鉄道 網状組織 every day, the Kyiv-Kramatorsk train stands apart, shrouded in solemn silence as 乗客s 心配する their 目的地.

Every day, around seven in the morning, 乗客s of this 大勝する leave the 親族 safety of the 資本/首都 and 長,率いる east to frontline areas where 戦う/戦いs between Ukrainian 軍隊s and ロシアの 軍隊/機動隊s 激怒(する) and ロシアの strikes are たびたび(訪れる) with imprecise ミサイルs that 激突する into 居住の areas.

The 乗客s are a mix of men and women that 申し込む/申し出 up a slice of Ukrainian society these days. They 含む 兵士s returning to the 前線 after a 簡潔な/要約する leave, women making the trip to 再会させる for a few days with husbands and boyfriends serving on the 戦場s, and 居住(者)s returning to check on homes in the Donetsk 地域.

They are all lost in thought and rarely converse with each other.

Nineteen-year-old Marta Banakh anxiously を待つs the train´s next 簡潔な/要約する stop at one of its nine 中間の 駅/配置するs on the way to Kramatorsk. She disembarks at the 駅/配置する for a quick cigarette break, 転換ing her 負わせる 支援する and 前へ/外へ from one foot to the other.

Her family doesn´t know she has made this 旅行 from western ウクライナ共和国, crossing the entire country, to 会合,会う her boyfriend, who has been serving in the infantry since the onset of Russia´s 十分な-育てる/巣立つd 侵略 of ウクライナ共和国 in February 2022. He rarely gets a break, and Marta has decided to surprise him with a visit.

"I worry that every day could be his last, and we may never see each other again," she said wearing her hair 負かす/撃墜する, 栄冠を与えるd with a pearl-studded headband.

It´s the only high-速度(を上げる) day train that 運動s to Kramatorsk. The city is about 30 キロメーターs (いっそう少なく than 20 mil es) from the 前線 line, which makes it susceptible to ロシアの strikes. And just a few キロメーターs away from the city, 戦う/戦いs 近づく the ロシアの-held city of Bakhmut 激怒(する) for the second year.

The war has become an integral part of the lives of millions of Ukrainians, and the country´s 広大な 鉄道 system has remained 操作の にもかかわらず the war. Night trains that 動揺させる across the country still welcome 顧客s with hot tea and clean sheets in the sleeping compartments. The trains also carry 貨物, 援助(する) and gear.

The 人気 of the Kyiv-Kramatorsk 大勝する 最高潮の場面s the reality of war.

Around 126,000 乗客s used this 大勝する during the summer months this year, によれば 国家の 鉄道 操作者 Ukrzaliznytsia. It 持つ/拘留するs the fourth position for 乗客 容積/容量 の中で all intercity high-速度(を上げる) trains and 持続するs one of the highest occupancy 率s - 94% - の中で all Ukrainian trains.

The 関係 was 一時停止するd for six months 早期に in the war. The 停止(させる) in April last year followed a ロシアの ミサイル strike on the Kramatorsk 鉄道 駅/配置する while 乗客s were waiting for 避難/引き上げ. The strike killed 53 people and 負傷させるd 135 others in one of the deadliest ロシアの attacks.

Alla Makieieva, 49, used to 定期的に travel on this 大勝する even before the war. Returning from a 商売/仕事 trip to the 資本/首都 支援する to Dobropillia, a town not far from Kramatorsk, she 反映するs on the changes between then and now.

"People have changed, now they seem more somber," she says. "We´ve already learned to live with these ミサイルs. We´ve become friends," she joked. "In Kyiv, the atmosphere is 完全に different; people smile more often."

Kyiv is 定期的に attacked by ロシアの ミサイルs and drones. But unlike Kramatorsk in the Donetsk 地域, the 資本/首都 has powerful 空気/公表する 弁護 保護, which gi ves 居住(者)s an illusion of safety.

As the morning light 徐々に gives way to the midday sun, it fills the spacious train carriages in warm radiance. The train 棚上げにするs are mostly filled with 軍の backpacks and small 捕らえる、獲得するs. Occasionally, a waiter breaks the silence in the aisle, 申し込む/申し出ing coffee, tea, and 軽食s. Along the way, one can order dishes like bolognese pasta or a cappuccino.

The high-速度(を上げる) train ride from Kyiv to Kramatorsk costs だいたい $14. In nearly seven hours, 乗客s cover a distance of around 700 キロメーターs (400 miles).

Twenty-six-year-old Oleksandr Kyrylenko sits in the train´s ロビー with a coffee in 手渡す, gazing thoughtfully out of the window as the landscapes change 速く.

It´s his first time 長,率いるing to the 前線 line, and he 収容する/認めるs he didn´t 推定する/予想する to travel to the 震源地 of the grinding war with such 慰安.

He had been working as a 倉庫/問屋 経営者/支配人 in Poland when Russia 侵略するd ウクライナ共和国. "I helped as much as I could," he said. "Then I decided I needed to go myself."

"There is no 恐れる. I 簡単に want it to end sooner," he says of the war, dressed in 軍の attire.

His parents were not thrilled about this idea, but this summer the young man returned to ウクライナ共和国 and すぐに went to the 軍の enlistment office.

"It even feels はしけ on my 良心," he said, 追加するing that this 決定/判定勝ち(する) (機の)カム 自然に to him. "Human 資源s are running out. Something needs to be done about it."

The train arrives at its final 目的地 on time, and the 壇・綱領・公約 quickly fills with people.

Twenty-year-old Sofiia Sidorchuk embraces her boyfriend, who has been serving since the beginning of the 十分な-規模 侵略. The 20-year-old 兵士 差し控えるs from 公表する/暴露するing his 指名する for 安全 推論する/理由s.

He 持つ/拘留するs Sofiia tightly, as if trying to (不足などを)補う for all the lost time during their longest 分離 in seven years of the 関係.

"We 行方不明になるd each other," Sofiia explains her 決定/判定勝ち(する) to come from the northwestern Rivne 地域 to Kramatorsk.

"It´s love," 追加するd her partner, wearing 軍の 疲労,(軍の)雑役s.
